ROCKNROLL – Original rock n roll had “brass and piano” sound to a dance beat ,guitar got introduced later evolving to “classic rock”. Hindi rock n roll songs mostly used brass, piano and snare drums; some of the epic songs where guitar are used are presented here .
GUITAR ARPEGGIOS are sequential notes played on different strings of a guitar like a harp . they provide rhythm / melody for the rest of the song although they don’t get enough credit for it ! The first time a bass guitar was used in one of the RDB songs in this medley.
Guitar Blues/Jazz Style: 1950s and 60s saw usage of mandolin Jazz/Blues type songs ( mera naam chin chin, eena meena ,etc), This style was “non existent” in 1980s and 1990s but picked up when Vishal B started to compose for Satya.
Indian Classical : While there are many songs in South ( Prasanna /ARR) I havent heard hindi songs using guitar to do Indian classical slides/gamakas/; there is niladri kumar using zitar ( guitar + Sitar) for Pritam , Sanjoy das with Amit Trivedi and Ram Sampath recently ..
Pop(ular) Guitar Based Songs : There are many guitar leads that we all remember and here is an excerpt of them from 1950s till now.. They are across various styles and pop here means popular :)
Rock : Ehsaan/Vishal B/Vishal D brought Guitar riffs/Powerchords to Bollywood.. The last 3 songs are a stunner in what i call "mad to crazy"
Bringing ten 2010 decade bollywood songs not often heard on my TL 1. Saibo by shreya ghoshal is very popular from “shor in the city” but “teri justajoo” is an equally good song , amazingly sung by roop kumar rathod
Hamsadwani raga touches ❤️
2.Vishal dadlani. Shilpa rao , amit trivedi and 🎺 create “love is in the air” mood..
Lovely song to vibe
3.A sombre violin recurring motif , rain through sonams eyes

How to Identify Ragas in Film music without Learning Music (1/n) .
I havent learnt classical but using a "signature melody " in one song you can identify ragas as well!
Raag Bhairavi- Here are pattern of songs across languages ; look at the 2nd/4th line ending with same phrase.
Basically once you get the signature melody you will start identifying similarities to the original reference . For me for Bhairavi( sindhubhairavi) the reference is mile sur mera tumhara ; those patterns get repeated mostly in all other songs. Hope this is of help.
Ragam 2- Identifying reethigowla ragam in film music
The pattern is very easy in my view . Remember the pattern in "chinna kannan" tamil song pallavi and that pattern is always there hidden in other songs below ( malayalam/telugu/tamil).
#ARRahman and Guitars Based Songs (🧵) - ARR is known for using synth and keyboards but occasionally he shows his magic with guitar driven songs. Illayaraja was a guitarist himself while I assume ARR probably gave a free hand to his guitarists to "jam" over his melody (1/n)
Spanish Masala - This is what I think of probably his first guitar driven Song - July Matham ( from his 3rd movie ) . Since Prasanna played guitar he nicely mixed "western" and carnatic elements to it . See Prasanna playing it himself in this video (2/n)
The second song that I remember guitar elements is Athangara Marame ; The initial guitar leads and a strong Guitar humming drives this song (3/n)
