I’m writing this post in response to this article and some posts I’ve seen on FB about Oscar’s non #MoonKnight pics. It’s gonna be a long post; maybe! So bare w/me polygon.com/23045212/moon-…
According to the article, MK isn’t MCU suitable, for the mainly 2 reasons 1/
1. MCU is family friendly 2. MK is dark and bloody (the mental illness and mercenary life of Marc)
The 2 reasons I’m gonna focus on. Yes, those reasons show contrast between MK and MCU. Not fitting, but a nice change. Will say why 2/
MCU is supposedly to be all about lightheartedness and telling joke 😬 and I understand; our real world is darker “check history” but it didn’t have to get to this point. Too much jokes.
Heroes are like soldiers IRL! 3/
And yes, soldiers might tell jokes among each other to lighten up the dark reality of wars and the fact they might not return home! Yet, we’ve heard about their mental sufferings. Some suffer from PSTD, schizophrenia, or even DID due to trauma they’ve seen 4/
Therefore, heroes are being unrealistically portrayed as close to perfect individuals w/out any mental illnesses is getting old by now and unbelievable. As much as I understand that kids watch and read about comics and comics media and parents are worried what is in there 5/
They aren’t supposed to read them at young age. Even if they waited til kids are adults to introduce them to comics; we can’t rule out that some of the dark moments exposure, otherwise, can cancel comics 6/
Assuming they are cancelled. We will end up doing the same for some video games like Call of Duty or any shooting games to avoid kid/young adults from getting exposed to violent in them all 7/
Then, we will need to stop w/the true crime documentaries. And ban them from reading history or even knowing about real life. Cause all are full of violence 8/
We are supposed to sit down and tell them about how the world is dark but we can help them to make it lighter because we can’t know the future and we can’t blame entertainment and games for violence they might contain 9/
As for MK, it talks about a man with mental illness. It sheds light on it, family abuse, and the trauma of losing a family member along with a touch of a superhero/supernatural world 10/
So, I will pray and hope that Marvel/Disney won’t be deterred from continuing MK story, cause we need to have more discussion and talking about mental illness 11/
Just the other day; a journalist who was up to promotion, took his own life. His colleagues were baffled as they said he was doing good! It’s not determined yet as to why he did it but historically, we have some who did the same for various reasons 12/
And majority didn’t show anything. And their loved ones and friends might blame themselves for not being able to do anything.
We need to talk about mental illness and well-being more. Cause a mental illness can be scary and it can be a silent deadly killer 13/
Taking our loved ones away from us. And as I person who lives and have some who suffer from mental issues “between depression, schizophrenia, bipolar, and paranoia” and has slight anxiety, I want to have more discussions about it 14/
I’m done with comic books movies/series that paint their heroes as perfect individuals. I’m okay if Superman will suffer from an identity crisis being a Kryptonian who lives among Humans. I’m okay with traumatised Batman who is lost 15/
And trying to find his way back to the light. I’m okay with WW who had decided to step back from humanity after witnessing what they’ve done to each other but is willing to return when needed 16/
I’m okay with AM who restored to isolation ending up with a drinking problem from what he’s seen for a long time but agreed to use his powers to save the world 17/
I’m okay with seeing two almost adults: Cyborg and Flash finding themselves they need to mature so soon since not only the world but their teammates are relying on them and their powers to right the wrong 18/
And I’m okay with the fact that the powerful MK who is said to have survived the 🫰 is actually mentally ill w/official DID diagnosis 19/
Cause nobody is perfect. It’s okay to be perfectly imperfect. It’s okay to have a physical or mental issue; you still can live, do things, work, and love w/the needed help and assistance 20/
We need to talk more about mental issues we face.
One last thing to clarify all what I’ve said in simpler way.
As someone who worked in travel industry for 5 years. You can’t go with your adults in your circle to a family hotel 21/
Then complain to the front desk from the noise of the families asking for them to do something.
Maybe the staff won’t say it bluntly but if you’re looking for adults only time, why you booked at a family hotel knowing their are adults only hotels! 23/
Yes, there are some hotels who can provide both family and adults sections but no guarantee you will get a room in AO section instead of family section because there are some factors such as seasonality at booking time 24/
So, do us a favour, if you wanna adults only place, look up and book adults only hotels.
Same goes for parents, quit complaining comics are too dark for your kids. Know that not all comics are suitable for them 25/
Find them suitable ones and leave other grownups who don’t mind reading those dark comics. I’m not encouraging or loving violence. I just want comics to imitate real life from time to time 26/

I’ve came across some FB posts about Oscar; w/some pics from his childhood and another of him wearing a black skirt! 1/6
Some mocked his childhood/teenage pics cause he didn’t look the way he looks right now and the post writer wrote and I’m paraphrasing: RIP, Oscar lost his high status for me. Cause he looked as any other teen his age at that time 2/6
Another wrote about the skirt pic, his prestige got lost 🙄 in which I’ve tried to say that he might have thought about honouring his Irish fans culture (I know his was black and The Irish is plaid). Yet as below pics, men did wear skirts and kilts 3/6
This is what Zack Snyder was trying to do with DC characters. His Superman was questioning himself. His Batman was broken due to all the shit he saw in his 20+ years of fighting crime. His Wonder Woman was withdrawn from humanity 1/5
Due to all shit that she had witnessed from hundreds of years fighting for justice. His Flash and Cyborg found themselves in need to mature too soo to fight for the world. And his Aquaman needed to restore his faith to fight again for the world. 2/5
But he was shut down and forced out from this beautiful story of the human journey with their ups and downs, characters’ development, and fighting their own demons/mental illnesses wanting to make cheap copies of Marvel’ universe; 3/5
