Yesterday I spoke live in Memphis at @travel_con to a crowd of ~100 people about a key part of my craft—TikTok 🧵
My talk was "How to Crush it on TikTok", something I feel like I've done growing to 275,000 followers on @tiktok_us in the last 1.5 years (25,000+ in April alone!) I've also done sponsored brand partnerships with TikTok before, and am in @tiktokcreators's #BlackTikTok community.
I shared the importance of an optimized profile as well as setting/meeting expectations of your audience. I also dissected the formula for a viral video. AND had the crowd actually MAKE their first TikToks with me! All in 45 minutes!
I was so nervous the morning of that I skipped the other sessions that morning to zone out in my hotel room. Public speaking ≠ easy. Public speaking after 2 years of isolation and solo-ness? PHEW.
But climbing the steps to stage, I was overcome with a sense of calm. I really know this topic! So much so I could just talk without slides or prompting, about it for an hour. Especially in the travel space. This is truly my jam.
I've spoken on stage few times—on a panel about study abroad in 2017, a TEDx talk in 2019, on a panel about travel influencers inn 2021, at Women's Travel Fest about traveling in the pandemic in March this year. This was by far the most at ease I've ever felt!
My talk was entertaining, concise, actionable, and FUN—just like a good TikTok should be I had the audience raising their hands, contributing, asking questions, and even it was a low stress, high value talk.
Thanks again to @nomadicmatt for inviting me to speak at @travel_con, and to all of the attendees who came to support and learn about the hottest short-form video platform of 2022 (and beyond!)~

Wanna travel with your 9-5? No problem. Here's how to hack the long weekends and maximize your PTO 🧵
Mark the long weekends on your calendars. i.e. mark holidays and PTO days you want to take on Mondays and Fridays. Plan trips for then. See prime U.S. dates below👇🏽
Notify your boss (if you can). If you have a good relationship just mention, "I plan to travel as much as possible this year, just so you know. I would love if the company worked with me, and also kept me in mind for any opportunities to travel." You never know!
In 2013 I was 17 and was just accepted to a college… an hour from home. BOO 👎🏽 It was the “smart” thing to do but I wanted a BIG mindset shift to set the tone of my life. So I last minute booked a trip to Iceland 🇮🇸 (using all of my tutoring $ savings) to go backpacking
I want to co-host a travel reality show where women take their first solo trip and discover their independence and identity through the ups and downs of the adventure 🤞🏽
until this is happens (which it WILL!) - make sure you’re following me on Instagram where I’m ALREADY sharing endless solo female travel inspo and tips, and a full time traveler! (pic of me solo traveling in Dubai) 🥰 Instagram.com/packslight
I am a die-hard @united traveler. I live next to their national hub and I traveled to San Diego like 10x last year roundtrip, so I became Silver Medallion.
My mom is die-hard @Delta flyer and is Silver Medallion with them.
But for the free week that I won in South Korea (👀see here bit.ly/stuDYAbrOad) Delta was cheaper. Wth. I want flight perks especially if I'll be in the air for 15 HOURS. But instead of complaining, I went Googling.
OK. We all agree that January was a horrible fluke in 2020. The year starts NOW. And if travel was one of your goals, we're done talking about it, we're making it happen. Start with these tips:
Mark the long weekends on your calendars. i.e. mark holidays and PTO days you want to take on Mondays and Fridays. Plan trips for then. See prime U.S. dates below 👇🏽
