It is similar to how we starve public goods and then punish them for failing. Denying the status & professionalization of an award and then punishing a scholar for not having the networks that produce most of our professional status
From the university's position, the logic is usually: 1. you are not a real researcher so why do you need awards
2. your unit is a service unit, meaning it provides service to real units by teaching. i suspect in this case, the very popular race/class/gender courses that other majors farm out to more vulnerable departments.
3. you are a person of color, woman, or sexual minority (or some combination) and any investment in you just makes you more likely to leave. why bother?
I suspect an org case study of grant refusals would reveal some interesting pathways for women of color. assuming that hasn't already been done.

We have an update on my mannerly neighborhood gang.

I had a business trip last week. I left the child-dog with my mother (primary) and Lauren (secondary). No sooner do I land in a foreign place does Vivian start testing me photos of my dog with what appears to be TWO gangs of children.
I will never ever understand why a quick, “you good?” for permission to offer help tests people’s entire moral fiber but truly just a little “you good” and “my bad” will solve 70% of all things.
Just today a stranger man tried to physically move me to where he thought I should be standing. And it’s just a normal part of life. It doesn’t amount to trauma per se but it is so annoying.
I’m surprised that there are more people that think I spend a million dollars on a puppy than there are people who offer me snacks. Faust and all that.
I clearly imagined successful auditing had more snacks.
Of course my parents want to watch The First Ladies show. I am not touching The Discourse on this show but I do have one question: did the director hate the subjects???

Questions include: 1. Why these three women in relation to each other? To history? Does the show plan to make a case to the viewer?
2. What’s the selection criteria for the moments? For the time jumps?
3. The quality of each mini-script within the script varies A LOT
