My Company Orange Window Cleaning generates $50K/mo in Revenue… but how many Windows do I Clean?
The Answer is ZERO
Here’s how you can Leverage Subcontractors to Create a Remote Home Service Business that Pays you over $100k+ in Profit per Year
A 🧵👇
1/ Why Subcontractors instead of Employees?
The answer is simple.
Subcontractors are other business owners.
Business owners have something many employees do not.
That thing is Pride in their work!
An employee will never care as much as you do about your business. That is just the reality.
On the surface you might think you have “more control” using employees. This is true… kind of.
With employees, you have to invest into training them, purchasing equipment, replacing lost equipment, etc
If you want to scale, you have to continue to do all of these things with new employees until you can get an ops manager in place.
This takes time and lots of profit you made that you’ll have to reinvest back into your business. This can create cash flow issues.
Why go through all of that when you can just hire someone who has the training, equipment, and own vehicle to go and perform jobs for you?!
But what about quality control?!
Across both of my home service businesses that use subcontractors… We have over 400+ 5 star reviews.
The only 1 star we have is actually from when we had employees..
How?
We do a REALLY good job of setting expectations, having clear communication, and following up with our customers.
This is why we’ve been able to maintain this reputation despite not “controlling” our fulfillment.
2/ How Can you do the Same?
Step one is to hire subcontractors.
The best places to look for quality subcontractors are:
- 3rd, 4th, & 5th pages of Google my Business and Yelp.
- Local suppliers (EG: Junk yard for Junk Removal, Window Cleaning Suppliers for Window Cleaning, etc)
- Referrals from local Nextdoor, Facebook, and Community groups.
You can also do paid hiring in some niches.
House Cleaning is a good one to do paid hiring.
1. Most people can clean a house. 2. Most people will happily pay for their own equipment if it means they can make between $20-$30/hr plus tips for cleaning houses.
Here’s an example of a job posting you can copy and paste into your biz and generate endless subcontractor leads 👇
3/ Payment Structure
How much do you pay subs and how do you pay them?
You can do it daily or weekly. We choose to do it weekly.
You can use things like @bookingkoala to auto pay your subs right when you charge the customers’ cards.
@BookingKoala The structure to pay subs is a 50/50 split.
To get them to stay longer, you can also give them a higher percentage after a certain amount of jobs are completed. I recommend capping your split at 60%.
OSHA mandates that all Forklift operators must have a valid Forklift license.
With E-commerce continuing to grow and the need for warehouse space to accommodate that growth, I could see there being a huge growth in the number of forklift operators.
I found a ton of companies in the space offering both online and in person training.
