At the 2022 #MetGala, many of the attendees wore recycled fabrics and vintage dresses in a nod to sustainable fashion.
Singers Billie Eilish and Camila Cabello wore dresses made of recycled and sustainable fabrics, while celebrities including HoYeon Jung, Emily Ratajkowski, and Adut Akech Bior wore dresses from past seasons.
Emma Stone wore one of the dresses she wore in her wedding, and climate activist Xiye Bastida was in attendance to bring awareness to climate justice.
‘There is no better feeling than to know your designs will live on,’ said Nicolas Ghesquière, the artistic director of women’s collections for Louis Vuitton, which Stone and Jun were repping.
‘While my role as an artistic director is to constantly create, the chance to return to previous collections and designs for this year’s Met Gala was joyful.’

On Tuesday, singer Phoebe Bridgers shared that she had an abortion last year, speaking out the day after news broke that the Supreme Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade. Image
‘I went to planned parenthood where they gave me the abortion pill. It was easy. Everyone deserves that kind of access,’ Bridgers wrote on both Twitter and Instagram.
This is not the first time Bridgers has expressed her support for reproductive rights.

The U.S. State Department said Tuesday that it has re-classified WNBA star Brittney Griner’s ongoing detention in Russia, determining that she is ‘wrongfully detained’ there. Image
The change in designation marks an important shift in how U.S. officials will approach her situation, as it indicates they will now publicly negotiate for her potential release, rather than letting her case play out in the Russian legal system.
Her case will now be handled by the State Dept’s special presidential envoy for hostage affairs instead of by consular officials.

Former U.S. Ambassador to the UN and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson has also reportedly come aboard to work on Griner’s case, a source told ESPN.

Access to abortion could be restricted or banned in many U.S. states if Roe v. Wade were to indeed be overturned, according to experts.
13 states have ‘trigger laws’ on the books, which are laws that would completely ban or severely curtail abortions and are designed to take effect (i.e., ‘trigger’) immediately if Roe is overturned.
Anti-abortion lawmakers in several GOP-controlled states have recently passed laws to restrict abortion access even if Roe remains intact. Texas has passed a 6-week abortion ban that allows private citizens to enforce the law through civil lawsuits.

A barrel containing human remains was revealed on Sunday, May 1.

Lt. Ray Spencer of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told the New York Times that the person was murdered, and items found inside the barrel point to the crime happening in the 1980s. Image
The police will collaborate with researchers at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and the coroner's office to discover the age of the barrel and identify the remains—a process that could take years.
The body was discovered by people walking around the reservoir. Spencer said that it's not unusual for the police to be investigating homicides near Lake Mead, as rangers find one or two bodies every year, though the dropping water levels could unearth more old crimes.

A draft majority opinion was leaked to Politico on Monday night indicating that the Supreme Court has decided to overturn the landmark 1973 abortion rights case Roe v. Wade, as well as the 1992 case Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
The situation is an historic first— there's no documented incident in modern SCOTUS history of a draft decision being leaked while the case itself was still technically pending. If true, the decision will have lasting ramifications for the right to abortion access across the U.S.
The U.S. Supreme Court currently has a 6-3 conservative majority. If it has voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, it'd ‘end a half-century guarantee of federal constitutional protection of abortion rights & allow each state to decide whether to restrict or ban abortion,’ per Politico.

For the first time in more than 2 years, visitors from 60+ countries could enter New Zealand on Monday without needing to quarantine as long as they were vaccinated and in possession of a negative COVID test.
With the policy change also came scenes of emotional reunions at Auckland Airport, with groups of loved ones embracing or the first time in years.
Last month, New Zealand began opening its borders to Australians before following suit with those from other countries, including the U.S., the UK, Canada, Singapore, and more.
