The beliefs of a minority, justified by a religion I do not follow, is now going to determine the daily realities for me, my children and all Americans. It is wrong. It is outrageous. We are broken. #RightToPrivacy#RightToChoose#AbortionIsHealthcare
I am a doctor. I have seen countless cases where a very wanted pregnancy has very real complications. There is so much nuance lost in making this a political issues. Let women and their doctors make the extraordinarily difficult and personal decisions that such situations need.
I am not a Christian. I am not an atheist. I am not an anything. But I am a person who believes religion is deeply personal and informs who a person is. But your religion can’t, and shouldn’t, inform who *I* am. Only I can do that.
Our laws and institutions were never meant to be Christian. Or Jewish. Or Muslim. Or Zoroastrian. This is a foundational idea in the building of this country. Freedom from religion. I am an American as much as anyone in those groups.
Oh, and you 100% know a woman who has had an abortion. Yes, even you. Because they are profoundly common. Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.
