The sight of men *loving* using the threat to women's reproductive rights as leverage to cut a deal on female boundaries is a bloody disgrace
I imagine there may have been some brief moment of "shit, now it *does* look like female people are properly oppressed" before it quickly became "and boy, am I going to use it to put them in their place"
Also, look how many women did what you asked them, sacrificed their language, and it wasn't enough. If our abortion rights were contingent on women in general agreeing to all your crap, they'd be safe as houses.
Actually find it really upsetting - that so many men who claim to care about women's rights look at what is happening with Roe v Wade and think "what can I get out of this? How can I use it to shame women I don't like and pressure them to accept my terms or not have my support?"

Quote I used in my @Womans_Place_UK speech last night, from Mary O'Brien's The Politics of Reproduction (1981). I think it's so resonant right now.
@Womans_Place_UK Male attempts to control female reproduction are rooted not least in the fact it's not theirs, and that paternity isn't assured and knowable in the same way. The control of language is part of that.
Men now railing at feminists for being in league with the anti-abortion right have been happy to use language that reduces women to "gestators" and cheer on the rise of commercial surrogacy, which treats pregnant women as potting soil who don't own what's inside them

You could write an entire book on how responses to JK Rowling illustrate each and every feminist argument about how gender functions faroutmagazine.co.uk/why-jk-rowling…
1. Women may have no legacy; 2. Women are to blame for male violence; 3. Women have no needs of their own, and feign having them to attack others; 4. Women weaponise trauma; 5. Women should not have the material resources to defend themselves from attacks; 6. Women shouldn't age
7. Women's words mean whatever men say they mean; 8. Everything women create is really the creation of men; 9. The badness of a woman may be measured by the degree of abuse she receives; 10. Women shouldn't support other women

Wollstonecraft, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman
I'm guessing Wollstonecraft would not have been on board with the idea that offering women the option - with conditions - to superficially swap cages was the solution to all women's problems
There is of course a longstanding history of feminism which was not called "gender critical" because opposition to a social hierarchy based on stereotypes of masculinity and femininity was taken as read (and anti-feminists didn't yet call themselves feminists)

Maybe another day I'd be more amenable but it makes me so cross - women have endured millennia of bullshit "science" about wandering wombs, inferior brains, reading affecting our fertility, too much "emotion" to do scientific research, too shit at spatial relations to drive... >
And whenever we've pointed our it's shit it's been categorised as "denial of ALL differences" (like we've forgotten we can get pregnant). And whenever it's been proved wrong, no one's apologised, just moved on to a new way of explaining "scientifically" why we love washing up >
I am just not going to accept that today's sex denialism is feminism's chickens coming home to roost given how much nonsense sex difference "science" we have *had* to challenge to access the most basic rights to participation in public life.

Imagine if you had a group of male people defining what female people are and what their rights should be - and any form of female dissent was cast, not as justified, but as an attack on a more marginalised group with greater insight into femaleness Image
Imagine a non-female person writing a book called Females, defining the essence of femaleness as "an open mouth, an expectant asshole, blank, blank eyes", and female people being told any objection to this was rooted in their own ignorance of themselves
Imagine a female person *did* write a book on the movement that legitimised such a thing - only to be told "never in a million years would a man write a book called "Women" blah blah blah"

Cannot get my head round people thinking the logical follow-on to "there are women who don't conform to patriarchal beliefs about women" is "therefore they're not women", not "therefore the beliefs about women are incorrect"
Growing up I remember being told feminists, lesbians, myself sometimes, didn't behave like "proper women". The implication was "they/you should behave differently". It's not some great improvement to be told "carry on as you are, but you're not a woman".
Because the feminist message - you don't need correcting, it's the imposition of 'femininity' that's wrong - is so simple, it often feels like you must have missed something. Like, it can't be that we're *still* bending over backwards to avoid saying the definitions are wrong?
