For 160 years, #CincodeMayo has commemorated resilience and triumph in the face of overwhelming odds. Generations after outnumbered Mexican patriots fought to a hard-won victory over French invaders, their valor remains a point of national pride in Mexico.
In the United States, today brings us together in celebration of our Mexican American community’s rich history and heritage.
From recently arrived immigrants to families whose roots predate our founding, the contributions of Mexican Americans are woven into our national story.
As public servants, health care heroes, artists, business leaders and more, Mexican Americans have strengthened our democracy, enriched our culture and made America more American.
As vile, xenophobic rhetoric continues to target Latino communities across the country, @HouseDemocrats remain committed to embracing America’s diversity and building a more just future.
That is why the House passed the American Dream and Promise Act – reaffirming the truth that immigrants are the constant reinvigoration of our nation. And it is why we proudly voted to establish the National Museum of the American Latino.
In remembering the heroes of the Battle of Puebla, let us channel their courage in the fights we face today. As we celebrate our Mexican-Americans friends, neighbors and loved ones, we must recommit to realizing our nation’s founding ideal: E pluribus unum – out of many, one.
Today, Americans join in celebrating one of the greatest political achievements of the 20th Century. Seventy-four years ago, the establishment of Israel in the Jewish people’s biblical homeland lit a beacon of hope for millions following the horrors of World War II.
In the decades since its founding, Israel’s rich culture & thriving economy have flourished amid existential challenges. The United States takes great pride in our ironclad bond with Israel, cemented minutes after its founding and rooted in both mutual security and shared values.
In February, I had the privilege of leading a Congressional Delegation to Jerusalem, where we met with Israeli leaders and made clear our commitment to the U.S.-Israel relationship.
This draft decision is a sweeping & severe restriction of Americans’ rights. With it, Trump, McConnell & Republicans assault privacy, precedent & the Constitution. By striking down Roe v. Wade, the Court would pave the way for Republicans to obliterate even more of our freedoms.
As drafted, Justice Alito’s argument — that women are not entitled to basic human rights today because they have been denied those rights for generations — is alarming and extremist. It offers a dangerous blueprint for future assaults on some of our most cherished rights.
By eviscerating women’s fundamental freedom to full reproductive care, radical Republican-appointed Justices are poised to inflict unthinkable suffering on tens of millions of families across our country, especially in communities of color and low-income communities.
If the report is accurate, the Supreme Court is poised to inflict the greatest restriction of rights in the past fifty years – not just on women but on all Americans.
The Republican-appointed Justices’ reported votes to overturn Roe v. Wade would go down as an abomination, one of the worst and most damaging decisions in modern history.
Several of these conservative Justices, who are in no way accountable to the American people, have lied to the U.S. Senate, ripped up the Constitution and defiled both precedent and the Supreme Court’s reputation.
Our Congressional delegation went to Poland & Ukraine to serve as representatives of the American commitment to NATO & to Ukraine. We now return to the U.S. inspired from our engagements & continue our work to further support Ukraine so that Democracy triumphs over dictatorship.
Today, in Warsaw, our Congressional delegation was honored to meet with @AndrzejDuda & express our thanks for the generosity & hospitality extended by the people of Poland to Ukraine. Our Members expressed our commitment to our bilateral relationship & to our mutual security.
Our delegation was also pleased to meet with @ElzbietaWitek, Speaker of the Sejm, and Members of the Sejm to discuss the shared commitment and work of our legislatures to further strengthen the important bonds between the U.S. and Poland.
Our distinguished Congressional delegation came to Poland to send an unmistakable message to the world: that America stands firmly with our NATO allies in our support for Ukraine.
As the Russian invasion of Ukraine rages on, our delegation continues our meetings with U.S. senior officials to be further briefed on the humanitarian tragedy caused by Putin.
In Rzeszów, our delegation had the privilege to visit and thank the courageous men and women of the 82nd Airborne Division stationed in Poland. On behalf of Congress and the Country, we conveyed our pride and appreciation for their patriotic service to our nation.
Today, on the first day of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Americans celebrate all that the AAPI community has done to shape our history, enrich our cultural tapestry and engage in our democracy.
Shamefully, racism & xenophobia continue to plague AAPI communities. Over the last 2 years, an outrageous surge of hate crimes has endangered the lives & well-being of Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders – from vandalism of AAPI-owned small businesses to brutal acts of violence.
We all have a moral obligation to speak out against this hate wherever and whenever it occurs. That is why, led by @CAPAC, the Democratic House proudly passed @RepGraceMeng’s COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act.
