Abortion has no long-term health effects whatsoever. All of these myths about increases in risk for depression, breast cancer, infertility, etc. are exactly that—myths. Nothing about abortion is dangerous. It has a lower complication rate than wisdom teeth removal or colonoscopy.
A really accessible and comprehensive brief by the folks at @ANSIRH, specifically on the safety of medication abortion (abortion with pills): ansirh.org/research/brief…
If you're someone who is interested in reading the research, a lot of the longitudinal findings on abortion outcomes come from @ANSIRH's #TurnawayStudy, and they have a really wonderful annotated bibliography of the 50+ peer-reviewed publications from it: ansirh.org/sites/default/…
And if you're interested in learning more but reading research studies isn't your thing, #TurnawayStudy Lead Investigator Dr. Diana Greene Foster has written an absolutely incredible book on their findings: bookshop.org/books/the-turn…
And also, don't forget to support @TEAFund who started this thread! They fund abortions for folks in northern Texas, which takes even more $$$ now that the vast majority of Texans can't get abortion care in Texas or Oklahoma: teafund.org/donate

🧵I am seeing A LOT of confusion about the different types of abortions. Here's a very brief guide to some of the most common abortion methods:
Medication abortion is overall the most common method. It uses 2 medications: mifepristone (mife) & misoprostol (miso) to end an early pregnancy (usually up to 10 weeks). If you go into a clinic, you usually take mife there, and then take miso at home. It's very safe & effective.
There's also telemedicine abortion, a type of medication abortion. Instead of going to the clinic, you talk with a clinician via video or phone, and the same mife and miso pills you would get in the clinic are mailed to you. This is legal in 31 states. Very safe & effective.
Y'all are incredible!!! We're at $2506!!! And we still have more time before this fundraiser ends and there's truly never enough money for abortion funds, so up the goal goes again! Can we hit $3000???? 👀👀👀
Y'all, this is a resource for people who want to do better and be less harmful, not a king's decree. If you want to be wrong, go be wrong. I don't need a status report from the badass bloc over here.
🧵 Before I say this I want to be very clear that Lizelle is NOT at all to blame for what is being done to her. Full stop.
But for others in the future, there are some things you can do to reduce (not eliminate) the risk of criminalization with a miscarriage or abortion at home:
1. Leave no online footprint of searches or purchases. Digital Defense Fund's privacy guide is your go-to. Private browsing, 2-factor authentication, encrypted messaging, etc. are critical: digitaldefensefund.org/ddf-guides/abo…
2. Medical complications are very uncommon with abortion pills but not impossible. If it's not an emergency but you need expert health advice, use a service like Google Voice to call or text the Miscarriage + Abortion Hotline at 1-833-246-2632. mahotline.org
