Thread on the life and career of @Charles_Leclerc
To start with, #Charles Marc Hervé Perceval Leclerc was born on 16 october 1997 in Monaco. He started karting at the age of four, with the help of Jules Bianchi, who became a very close friend to Charles. At the age of 7, he won his first race with Jules always by his side.
Finally, Jules realised one of his dreams and became an F1 driver. Sadly, he had a horrible incident at the 2015 Japanese GP, and only nine months after he passed away. Jules was only 25 years old. Rest in Peace. Charles commented on this tragedy and said "I've never overcome it”
Luckily, Charles's love for racing was beyond everything and he also said in that interview "But I never had a doubt about continuing. All I've ever wanted was to race." So he went on winning the feature race in Baku just THREE days after Jules death.
In 2016, Ferrari Academy signed Charles and he went on having a brilliant 2 years with them by winning a title in the GP3 Series in 2016, and the F2 championship in the year that follows
where he sadly lost his father, Hervé Leclerc (54), after his health was badly deteriorated, and after ONLY ONE DAY to grieve, he raced in BaKu and finished first and second in the two races of the weekend.
The death of Lercler's father had a huge impact on him as he said “The loss of my father and Jules. Two incredibly hard moments in my life that made me stronger as a person and a driver. Mentally I am stronger than I used to be. (…) It changes you forever.”
Just before the death of Hervé, Charles told him that he signed for Ferrari which was a lie, but he did it just to make his dying father happy as that was a dream for him.
2018 was a dream come true for him, he joined the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team and made his F1 debut in the Australian GP 2018, and scored his first points in the Azerbaïjan GP by crossing the finish line in 6th, as well as in NINE other races that same year.
Charles shined, and Ferrari needed a change in their lineup, so they promoted him to the Scuderia Ferrari F1 Team and the lie became true in 2019. He raced alongside Sebastian Vettel, and learned from him a lot, but also proved that he deserves that seat after some criticism.
In that same year, Charles got his first pole in Bahrain, and his first win in SPA just after one day (again 😢) of his childhood death, Antoine Hubert, after a horrific crash in an F2 race.
The following weekdend, he wins in Monza in front of the Ferarri fans after an amazing race battling the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Valteri Bottas, who both threw everything at him but couldn’t get him.
Charles went on and got 5 poles and 11 podiums in his first year at Ferrari. 2020 was one of the worst years of Ferrari, where the italian team finished 6th, and only battled for third place in 2021
But they definitely worked hard with the team boss, Mattia Binotto, and designed a winning car for 2022. Charles proved his skills and won the openning race, and is now leading the driver's championship. That's all, thanks !
