I just told my husb that women couldn't even get a credit card w/o a male signature until 1974, and he was incredulous. I think a lot of people don't realize that the deep misogyny of this country is so close that it's not even in the rear view mirror. It's here. It never left.
Ps: Just for some relevant context: there are *a lot* of men alive, including 2 on the Supreme Court, who used to be consulted in any decision a woman made. By law. They no longer have that. And they want it back. And this messaging has been passed down generationally.
Btw if you want to see a few more things that women couldn't do until the 1970s, here's a list: usatoday.com/story/news/fac…
It's a sad fact that I'm trying to read all of the replies and can't even keep up. There are thousands, millions, of these stories.

So stop telling us how to channel our rage and start being true allies.

LA friends: the Cal State LA site will accept any walk-ins 18+. You must go to the walk-in line. They have thousands of doses going unused, and the medical director is encouraging ppl to come. You can also make an appt using whatever criteria you need to & you will get the shot.
This is just for the next few days until FEMA turns it over to the city. Go!
I believe they are giving J&J according to the FB group I'm in.

A little Friday night info about how authors earn money bc I think the public at large doesn't get how it breaks down for the average writer. Authors are given advances when they sell a book: a chunk of money based on a variety of things that the pub house determines.
When I first started out, advances were healthy - many at least 50k+, many were higher. Over the yrs, for new and midlist authors, this number diminished. But for math, let's say an author is given a 40k advance. She pays her agent 15% of this. She is paid this in 2-3 increments.
She gets a check when the book sells, gets another when she files the ms, another when it pubs. (This can vary, I'm generalizing.) So essentially, three 11k checks spread out over hmmm 18 months. Don't forget taxes! She does not earn a penny more until the book has "earned out."

I've been registered as an Independent since I turned 18 & have never been a partisan voter.

I will hold the entire @GOP, w/the recent exception of Mitt Romney, accountable for the destruction of both our democracy and our country forever. This legacy should trail them forever.
@GOP You do not get to enable a corrupt, ignorant madmen for selfish purposes and then remove yourself from the blame when he destroys everything else. All they had to do was say no, and they couldn't even do that. Ever. Not once.
*madman (listen I am doing my best these days)
