I messed up at work.

I launched a lead generation campaign with no ads.

But I STILL managed to:

⚡ get qualified leads

⚡ generate 6 figures in revenue

in less than a month.

How?

Here's how.

🧵 // A THREAD
There are 4 rules of marketing, the holy grail:

1. Define your product

2. Define your pricing

2. Figure out the place your target is

3. Promote

I didn't consider any of them.
Even if you forget the 4 Ps (@neilpatel explains this below)

there's one rule that every marketer swears by to get results.

I'm not hating on this thing.

I just didn't do it.

What #1 rule did I break? Image
My campaign plan had zero paid media.

No Google. No Facebook. No nothing.

I shouldn't have got results.

My lead generation campaign should have failed.

Even worse, I doubled down on the one marketing channel that every CMO tries to avoid

Which channel was that?
Organic social media.

My boss said he didn't see the point.

"High intensity low value" is what he called it.

I showed him my plan in detail.

He only let me go ahead because it cost him nothing.

Here's what happened next.
I did two things that worked well:

1. I pulled together a database of LinkedIn contacts.

2. I created extremely high value content for them.

I didn't have to be an expert to do this.

So here goes nothing:
My Fail-Safe Lead Gen Strategy for Beginners.

1) Gather information on past clients.

2) Create content for them.

3) Use the content as a conversation starter on LinkedIn.

It really is as painless as it sounds.
Let's break it down:

1) Gather information on past clients.

This is the bedrock of your lead gen campaign.

The people in your Excel should know your brand.

And have trusted you enough to buy from you already.

The biggest headache = gone.

What if you're a brand new business?
Partnerships.

As a new company, you can accelerate trust by partnering with a brand.

Or a person.

But this is not about your partner doing a couple of posts on your behalf.
You need to:

2) Create quality content, together.

Lead magnets, webinars, affiliate offers.

Now what do I mean by "quality"?

Simple.

👉 It solves the target's bleeding neck problem (as @LouisSlices says)

👉 It offers them crazy free value.

Is your content doing this?
#letsbehonest

Most content marketing is packaging data we can find online

Or from a quick survey.

Putting it into Canva. Making it look legit.

We wonder why it doesn't work.
Instead, think about your audience.

Where they go for answers.

What formats they prefer. Short. Long.

If in doubt, ... don't pester them.

You're a pro.

And finally

3) Use the quality content as a conversation starter.

What do I mean by this?

This content is a passport to rekindle old relationships.

But that's just the start.
Even if you have primed leads it still doesn't mean they're going to buy from you.

You need to remind them that you exist, yes.

But in exchange, give them a 24-carat calling card.

Quality content.

And:

"Since we're here, can we help with anything else?"
Now if I told you every LinkedIn outreach message led to a sale, I'd be lying.

But this is when the magic happens.

You just need that one reply:

"You got me at the right time."

Boom. 10k in commissions.
It happened a handful of times over the next weeks.

"You got me at the right time."

The revenue started to multiply.

And remember - not a single paid ad.
You would be surprised what happens when a marketing strategy treats audiences like real human beings.
That's all folks!
