More disabled groups need to come out vehemently for abortion access. Banning abortions puts disabled people at significant risk. Many would be put at increased health risk if they were forced to bring a fertilized egg to term. #BansOffDisabledBodies#DisabledAndProChoice
If your disability org truly supports bodily autonomy for the disability community, you should be supporting bodily autonomy for disabled women and those that can become pregnant. #DisabledAndProChoice#BansOffDisabledBodies
Bodily autonomy is not just for disabled cis het men. It's for all disabled people. Your org is being hypocritical if you don't support abortion access. Point blank. #DisabledAndProChoice#BansOffDisabledBodies
Disabled groups have sat on the sideline for too long in hopes of keeping disability a "bipartisan" issue. But that is not a winning strategy. We have seen what that does to our community, resulting in incarceration and brutal neglect. It's time to decide which side you're on.
If your favorite disability org has not made a statement on abortion, ask them what their policy is. If they say they are not willing to take a stance, ask them why they are willing to fail disabled people who can become pregnant. Make it public. #DisabledAndProChoice
Know your rights when it comes to the ADA. If you are high risk and you doctor recommends masks, you can request your a mask mandate at your place of work as an accommodation. If they deny it, you have a right to submit a complaint to EEOC. blog.petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2022/03/08/mas…
Employers may state that it is an "undue" burden. However, if they previously had a mask mandate, then itll be harder for them to prove. The workplace may also suggest other accommodations, like WFH. But if u disagree with that accommodation due to isolation, you can push back.
EVERY accommodation request MUST be reviewed individually. That means there can't b a blanket ban on an accommodation. Each workplace should have a process for requesting an accommodation. If u dont know urs, ask. If they dont have one, tell them it's the law to have a process.
My statement after the Disability Community's meeting with @CDCDirector (threaded for accessibility):
1/7
While we are all pleased that Dr. Walensky was receptive today, what’s most important is fast aggressive action that will save lives:
2/7
The disability community needs regular lines of communication with the CDC, more transparency around how decisions are made and what data is being used, increased vaccine, treatment, and isolation guidance for individuals who are immunocompromised or at high risk.

SSI was key in helping me gain independence, getting me through college by stabilizing my living conditions, particularly during the long summer months. But it barely covered my rent back then & I incurred a lot of debt. It's time to increase benefits. #DemolishDisabledPoverty
1 of the biggest probs w/ SSI is how much it limits earnings. This significantly affects disabled ppl being able 2 get out of impoverished circumstances. My check was always affected even whenever I was able 2 get small gigs 2 help supplement my income. #DemolishDisabledPoverty
We must raise the income limits & asset limits, which are extremely outdated. The last time it was updated in 30 years. Disabled people can't live on $794 per month with only $2k in assets. Being disabled is expensive & we are holding disabled ppl back. #DemolishDisabledPoverty
This is not what transracial means and having people do this puts real harm on transracial adoptees and is just racist. Transracial adoptees exist and our experiences shouldn't be redefined by people like you.
Transracial adoption is a term that has been around since the 1980s, referring to the colonization of BIPOC children into generally white western families. Our experiences around identity, culture, & biographical history are linked to the transracial adoptee identity.
Many transracial adoptees continue to struggle with their racial identities. Not because they want to appropriate another racial group but because they have been colonized into white families and stripped of their heritage. Some spend years regaining that connection.
