Am already getting attacks from some ARMY about this tweet. I am merely stating facts. Jung Bobby has been accused of sex crimes and his name is on BTS’ track list. I had to delete so many of his songs from my own playlist…
He was indicted twice for physical assault & molka in 2020-21. Not sure about the current trial status.
I wish BTS all the best for their upcoming album. I am just saying Jung Bobby has been indicted for molka TWICE and might not be the person the band wants to associate themselves with. Stop sending me hate messages...!
And ppl who are like oh well the song was written in 2020... Just an example - in Korean television, 'controversial' figures get literally blurred out. like those indicted/convicted of serious crimes...
It'd have been safer for them to just eliminate the track from this album... considering Jung Bobby's bad rep and potential controversies... It's just not any crime but sex crimes Jung's indicted of...
Korean media report about the controversy regarding Jung Bobby's inclusion
Messages from BTS ARMY👇🏼
Some sides the public is unaware of.
Abusive msgs from many ARMY fans come after I pointed out how BTS handpicked a song w the credit to Jung Bobby, a musician indicted w sex crimes, on their upcoming album, and how that might be inappropriate given the band’s efforts to promote anti-violence.
BTS ARMY is known to be a force for good by donating and making social/ political changes. But inevitably, there is an ugly side to a global fandom - some fans hiding behind anonymity and sending hateful and cruel words to journalists and other twitter users.
A Korean broadcaster played “Minari” for free over the holidays. I overheard a group of ajummas talking about how “lame” and “boring” the film was, and wondering how Youn had won the Oscars when “she just cried and barely spoke English.”
Made me think about my own gaze.
I guess my point is not every struggle is universal and assuming any Asians would just automatically identify with characters in "Minari" might be a tad bit... (insert a word). And we should be careful about amplifying only certain reactions.
And their muted reaction to "Minari" doesn't mean the movie isn't awesome. It just means we have to realize there are diff communities and some might not understand the nuance of "where are you really from" bc they just never had that minority experience. It's just what it is.
