Zero excuse for harassing a politician like this. But the Star's lecture about "conspiracy theories" is a bit rich, given how often Singh himself has been caught spreading them—from Air India 182, to the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet, to the (fake) Ottawa protest arson plot...
Back in 2017, Singh said he had no idea who was responsible for bringing down Air India Flight 182. It was the Cdn equivalent of a U.S. politician saying he wasn't sue if al-Qaeda was behind the 9/11 attacks. It took him weeks to walk that one back...
cbc.ca/news/opinion/j…
Then in 2020, Singh signal-bosted an insane (and completely debunked) conspiracy theory to the effect that Toronto police threw a woman to her death from an apartment balcony. Unhinged blood-libel stuff. But to my knowledge, Singh never retracted it...
theglobeandmail.com/canada/toronto…
a few months ago, Singh told another whopper—telling Parliament, in the context of denouncing the convoy protesters, about a supposed mass murder arson plot. The suggestion that protesters had done anything remotely like this had already been debunked…
...I realize the current Conservative leadership campaign is full of its own toxic nonsense. This stuff comes thick and fast on both sides. It would be nice if our media called it out in equal measure. But with few exceptions, there's been little follow-up on Singh's conspiracism

I got sent @HaltonDSB's "Gender Identity & Gender Expression in Schools" policy. It has the creepy (but by now usual) boilerplate about how schools must collude with students to hide transitioning from parents. But there's an odd part I don't get..(1/2)...
hdsb.ca/our-board/Poli…
the glossary has the obligatory entries on gender... genderqueer, gender-fluid etc etc. But they contradict each other and no one seems to have noticed: "gender" is called "socially constructed." But then, under Gender Identity, gender is an "intrinsic" part of your very soul...
this has something that's always seemed unresolved in this mythology. on the CBC, etc, you'll hear alphabet-ologists rhapsodizing about gender as the bedrock of their identity...then in the next breath, it becomes this gauzy thing that flits around like a feather boa in the wind

okay so I just got sent screenshots (the kind you take with a camera pointed at a screen) from "Critical Consciousness" training at Halton District School Board @HaltonDSB. buckle up for this one. it's like they took ordinary CRT, and then said "hold my beer" (thread follows)...
okay so the thing about "Critical Consciousness" (CC) is that it's not so much a theory as a kind of quasi-religious State of Grace attained by expelling Racist Xenu (to borrow a Scientology metaphor) from your brain...
To *not* have CC is to do "harm" to the world
As with all religious movements, the first step is to realize that you are nothing in the universe—and that your resistance to the revealed truth only proves that you exist in a state of sin.

someone from Halton District School Board @HaltonDSB sent me a 20-page PowerPoint (apparently being finalized for Sept) making the case for K-8 de-streaming. But it's just a bunch of weird non sequiturs. E.g. pp. 7-10 are about how education & "banking" = "cycle of oppression"...
... then you get toward the end (remember, this is supposed to be about *de-streaming*), and suddenly we're being told to go "take a moment" and read the Truth & Reconciliation Calls to Action, plus the 30-page UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Ummm, okay...
it ends with demands for educators (I assume they're the audience) to not only read political & legal manifestos, but also to "commit" to oppose the evils of streaming…except that nothing in the doc explains why streaming is bad (except by reference to random SJ bromides)...

was talking to a bay street friend about why the big companies are now so woke. He told me that at shareholder meetings, they need a "social justice story" to make everyone happy. That can mean environmentalism, income inequality stuff, or identity ....
The problem is that addressing the environment is really hard. If you're a manufacturing company, reducing GHG emissions can cost billions. Same with increasing wages. But what does it cost to promise that you'll hire 20 % more non binary middle managers by 2030? Nothing
This helps explain, among other things, why even many conservative outlets don't want to rock the boat on this social justice stuff. It's a gold mine for their plutocrat advertisers. Why raise wages when you can just tweet out "IBPOC people exist!" or whatever

I've finally gotten back to regular visits to my health club, which is where I get most of my day-to-day medical info, since the most talkative people in the locker room seem to be ER doctors. Today I had a long talk with one of the especially sensible and well informed docs...
He told me we need to stop using the word "booster" to describe a third shot. The data show that the third shot is necessary to provide significant protection against omicron & subvariants. (4th shot is a different story). But he thinks 3rd shot should be part of "full course"...
On long covid, he said it's hard for an ER doc to comment, since most long symptoms are chronic, and don't present at ER. But he agreed with my (layperson, anecdotal) impression that long covid was more a concern from covid's original & delta strains, which had more acute cases..

we've seen controversies at Ontario's woke public schools. Now here's one at UCC, one of toronto's posh all-boys private schools. UCC sent questionnaires to children (down to gr. 4) about their race & gender ID, apparently (many complained) without properly notifying parents...
as usual, it apparently started with diversity consultants. I have copies of the age-stratified quiz materials, and there are differences according to age group. e.g. gr. 4-6 ucc kids asked if theyre trans, but older ucc kids also asked if they're "pansexual" (as per attached)...
when this kind of thing happens at public schools, few dare complain bcuz they know they'll be denounced as bigots. but UCC tuition is ~$40K and many parents blew their top. unlike with public schools, the customer is usually right at ucc, so the school went into damage control
