It was fitting that we gathered at the Wheelchair Statue.

Here, countless children with disabilities will not only see themselves as an integral piece of America’s past – but also an invaluable part of our future.

In one of our nation’s darkest hours, FDR offered a pillar of resilience; a beacon of hope. At this challenging moment, we hear echoes of that dark chapter & continue to look to his heroic leadership as the world engages in the battle of Democracy versus dictatorship in Ukraine.

Today, Senate Republicans lined up in lockstep behind Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump to vote to rip away the Constitutional right to health freedom from American women across the nation.

While Democrats are fighting to enshrine Roe v. Wade into law, Republicans mobilize around a dangerous & extremist agenda: seeking not only to criminalize abortion but also many other basic forms of reproductive care, including in vitro fertilization & post-miscarriage care.

And make no mistake: once Republicans eviscerate long-standing precedent and privacy rights with the Roe ruling, they intend to wage an all-out assault on more of our rights – including access to contraception and marriage equality.

Last week, I was proud to announce that the House will set its first-ever pay floor, establishing a minimum annual salary of $45,000. We have also increased the maximum rate of pay, an essential strategy to retain and recruit the nation’s top talent.

In October, the House voted on a strong bipartisan basis to hold Steve Bannon in contempt for defying a legitimate Congressional subpoena. This vote upheld the genius of our Constitution: the separation of powers, which safeguards the Congress’ authority to conduct oversight.

The Department of Justice is to be commended for moving to hold Bannon accountable for his blatant defiance of a lawful subpoena. Now, Bannon is seeking to dismiss the case, claiming that the @January6thCmte does not have standing to compel his testimony.

As the House’s amicus brief makes crystal clear, the subpoena of Steve Bannon issued by the Select Committee is legally valid, urgently needed and must be enforced. Bannon is a key witness to the January 6thInsurrection, who holds information central to the House investigation.
