Simply put, energy #sufficiency is about redu-
cing energy consumption through changes
in #behaviour.
It's notion of #enough implies a social lower boundary and a ecological upper threshold.
Why do we need #sufficiency policies?
Our collective choices such as taxa-
tion, infrastructure, legal and social norms,
shape our behaviour - currently not in a sustainable way!
Also the new @IPCC_CH WGIII report proposes therefore sufficiency policies!
What are benefits of sufficiency policies?:
1⃣ immediate reductions in energy demand;
2⃣ low costs of implementation;
3⃣ keeping energy prices in check;
4⃣ reducing the costs for the transition to cli-
mate neutrality;
5⃣ and co-benefits such as improved health.
Energy #sufficiency in the current crisis:
1⃣ Reduce #gas consumption through lower temperatures, heating less rooms
2⃣ Reduce #electricity consumption through less air conditioning, no tumble dryer
3⃣ Reduce #petrol consumption e.g. with measures proposed by @IEA's 10-point plan
What @EU_Commission could do?
1⃣ propose MS voluntary energy⚡️#savings_targets
2⃣ prepare an⚡️conservation #campaign
3⃣ lead by #example with an⚡️savings target of 25 %
4⃣ adopt a weekly ⚡️communication
5⃣ propose a temporary #ban on ads for e.g. flights and SUV
