Also note the cameo in the background from our new @WyrmwoodGaming table, woot!
I AM THE MAYOR OF GAME TOWN!
3/
Okay, starting with a more serious one than I am used to.
I have looked through this, it looks remarkable, but I only skimmed it so far. This incredible boxed set was a kickstarter, about German defiance against the Nazis.
Rosenstrasse by @UnrulyWarBirds.
4/
This company created the fantastic WAR BIRDS, an outstanding book of games about women in WWII.
Rosenstrasse is tasteful and scholarly, but humane and emotional. From what little I have read. A beautiful presentation about an impossible subject.
5/
If I hadn’t read War Birds, I would be much more apprehensive about this topic in a role-playing experience. But @UnrulyWarBirds seems to specialize in difficult material, and finding the heart and story.
Has anyone played this yet to talk about it?
6/
I think the value of this sort of experience could be hugely meaningful and emotional. Would love to hear from any who has the set.
I do love that this medium can be about more than just orcs.
Okay, on to less serious matters...first, please feel free to jump in and ask questions or make comments. The publishers and creators of these games often show up to answer those comments, and I think it makes the whole thing more fun.
No Cyclops comments, please.
8/
Additionally, all of these games are gifted to me, I did not pay for them, nor am I paid in any way to talk about them.
Rediscovering gaming has helped me a lot during the pandemic, and I think it could help a LOT of people. I only really talk about the stuff I like. :)
9/
Now, on to the weird stuff!
Also, who is singing?
10/
First! I know I mentioned this game before but we finally got to play it…it’s DETECTIVE EVERYBODY LIES. A terrific new Gotham City game that focuses on team detection. It’s based on the DETECTIVE series by @trzewik and @PortalGamesUS and it’s a JOY to play.
RECOMMENDED.
11/
The cute story about this is, the main designer is in Poland, and is an avid reader of mine. When he heard I liked a previous game in this series, he literally ran down to where this game was being printed and GRABBED ME THE VERY FIRST COPY.
:)
12/
It really feels like you are solving a case with the help of Gotham citizens. You dig up clues, there’s a terrific online records archive.
You get to be Columbo AND Vickie Vale. Just a great experience for detective or bat fans. Love it!
13/
Next is a MONSTER of a game the box for this weighed a million pounds (exaggeration). And it’s huge. This is the game everyone in the gaming community has been talking about…WONDERLANDS WAR!
This is the deluxe kickstarter edition, bring a friend to lift it!
14/
I have not played it yet.I am told it’s a huge huge hit, and man alive, is it gorgeous! I am told the deluxe edition has some upgraded components and miniatures instead of just standees, but otherwise plays exactly the same.
The box is a stunner, the insides…even MORE.
15/
Wonderland’s War, by @skyboundtabletp and Druid City Games, is a bag filling game, you go around the Mad Hatter’s table to collect the cards you use for battle…you play as the Jabberwock, Alice, and others. It is a definite showpiece, we cannot WAIT to try. Gorgeous!
16/
And our last two gorgeous games are from @TheOpGames, one of the most consistently excellent publishers out there. We play their games constantly, they do some of the best family games anywhere.
Been waiting for these for a long time!
SMASH-UP and SORCERER’S ARENA!
17/
Now, if you play a lot of card games, you know the SMASH-UP series, an incredibly fun and fast-paced game from @TheOpGames and @alderac for 2-4 players. You each take a faction, and protect or steal ‘bases.’
It’s glorious fun and the best thing is…
18/
…there are currently NINETEEN Smash-up sets, and the Disney Edition is fully compatible, so you could send characters from FROZEN or MULAN against kaiju or ninjas or any of dozens of other factions! Smash-Up is easy to learn, quick to play, and never the same game twice!
19/
Folks, we have a guest in the comments on this thread, Sean Fletchr, @gamemakerfletch, who worked on both of these last two games! He might be able to answer some questions if you ask nice. :)
Hi, Sean!
20/
So SMASH-UP is highly recommended, but I warn you, once you start, you WILL want to add more sets. They just bring so much variety to each game and you'll want to try 'em!
21/
This final one is one I’ve been waiting for for. Good while, it’s based on a mobile game I was absolutely addicted to…fun combat with Disney heroes and villains. Early murmurings have been joyous, it’s finally out.
DISNEY SORCERER’S ARENA: EPIC ALLIANCES!
22/
I rarely get THIS pumped up for a new release, but this is so up my alley!
In the core game, you can play as Mickey, Sully, Gaston, Maleficent and More. The mobile game is a blast, people are saying the board game is even better!
23/
I haven’t opened my set yet, I wanted to open it with my family when we are ready to play, hopefully tonight. But some of my favorite designers worked on this and OH MAN I CAN’T WAIT.
24/
I love the indie games and boost them every chance I get, but Disney has had a real winning streak with licensed games of their characters lately..,they’re just excellent games with high replay ability.
And the characters can make games more appealing to noobs and kids!
25/
So that’s it for today…remember, gaming has helped a LOT of people with stress and cabin fever during the pandemic. Grab one you see in #TableTopGails, and give it a try. You;lol enjoy it, it’s helped me a LOT!
Even Mr. Biscuits agrees!
26/
That’s it!
Thank you for reading, let me know in the comments if you have questions or if you have played these games!
I have been thinking this forever but this morning it really hit me.
@stephenking is a badass.
Just a combustion engine. Love that guy.
1/
There have been a dozen times where the thing getting me through a tough time was simply having a Stephen King novel or anthology or movie adaptation to enjoy.
2/
When I was a kid, the very first novel I ever read (I was probably a little young for it) where the cast was all female and took all roles from villain to tragic hero and everywhere in-between was Carrie. To this DAY, I still haven't read many novels that can make that claim.
3/
I hear all the time, and have thought it myself, why does the world fear and hate mutants, but love the scary-looking oddballs in, say, the Fantastic Four?
Here is a thought about that.
1/
The Fantastic Four comes to save you.
You look out, and you see standing around you;
A woman who disappears
A man on fire
A rock-like golen creature
and the ultimate stretchy body horror.
OR.
2/
You look out and see
A great-looking guy with sunglasses
A beautiful woman with a cool fire bird effect
A goddess controlling a storm
A slightly hairy Canadian.
Why are citizens afraid of THIS four, and not the others?
When I was in second grade, our teacher read us, over the course of several days, an adaptation of Cool Hand Luke.
None of us knew anything about prisons, Southern culture, road gangs, prisoner abuse, or crime in general, really. We were seven years old, and enthralled.
1/
I remember, NO ONE missed school after the first day.
It starts with Luke, played by Paul Newman in the movie, getting drunk and busting up parking meters, for no good reason, so your introduction to him, in a child’s’ view, is bad, not revolutionary.
2/
Spoilers, but Luke ends up paying a heavy price for simply not being able to go along with what he is told to do, the falsehoods he is told are true. It is inevitable, even as kids we knew there would be no happy ending.
And we know it was wrong, the escalation. As kids.
3/
One of my favorite moments of the #DeadpoolAndWolverine World Premiere night.
The actual event was loud and flashy, the movie was bombastic. And I’m shy.
After it was over, walking back to my hotel with my beloved hubby…
1/
We saw Chris Claremont (resplendent in his pink jacket) in a quiet spot in a little park across from the huge event facade.
He took a photo, I think, and it might just be my fangirl imagination, but it seemed to me he was contemplating the spectacle and his role in it all…
2/
I didn’t want to interrupt.
So I just said hi, in passing. But he had some musings which I will treasure to have been there to hear.
And he talked a little about Hugh Jackman and the choices they made with the writing and performing of the character.
3/
All right, so this will take a bit, but this is a thread I have wanted to do for a while.
This is it, the X-MEN: FROM THE ASHES mega-thread!
Interested in the upcoming X-books but a little overwhelmed by the new characters, creative teams, and titles?
Well, I had an idea!
1/
In this thread, I am going to give an unapologetic personal opinion about each of the upcoming titles, starting with tomorrow's X-MEN #1.
I admit up front I am biased, okay? These are MY opinions, I have not consulted with the creative or editorial teams.
2/
I have read all the issues of all these books so far. They are all creative teams I like. They are all pushing for the best books they can. And I am on a bit of an X-Men high and don't deny my OBVIOUS enthusiasm.
