A THREAD on how the LACK OF DIVERSITY in JOURNALISM facilitates misinformation. For the past week Google University Ph.Ds have commented on HBCUA funding. They often cite this mainstream news article. 👇🏾 1/
The title is misleading and the article confuses folks first calling it $45B for HBCUs then saying it includes other minority-serving institutions. But the headline is wrong; saying it is just HBCUs is lazy. 2/
On the web, the author's name is in red which suggests a hyperlink with more information. I'm intellectually curious, so I clicked it and saw this. 3/

A Picture Book THREAD for people who don't know what cuts mean. 1/
This is how funding works. 2/
But the real question is, where were y'all the last four years when actually money was proposed to be cut- every year? 3/

Since I've found so many new found HBCU advocates, I need y'all to do more than just tweet about the reduction in the proposed budget for HBCUs. First though you need to get the facts. Watch today, 12 pm ET/11 CT. 1/
Contact the members of the @EdLaborCmte and tell them to fully fund HBCUs at the level President Biden requested. 2/

Support the #HBCUIgnite Act. The @uncf has a great platform that makes it easy to write, call or tweet members of Congress to express your support. Put those twitter fingers to good use! 3/

A THREAD on the $30 billion HBCU cut lie: It's a lie. Critical thinking and understanding context have officially died in America. So folks are sharing this propaganda recklessly. So let me give some facts. 1/
Fact: "Each year, the federal government disperses about $1 billion to HBCUs through a mix of 15 programs such as Pell Grants and research and development contracts."
You can cut 30 from 1. Simple math.

In a bipartisan way, Congress has really supported HBCUs during the pandemic. Under previous administration, almost $1B in additional support went to HBCUs through the CARES Act. 3/
