There seems to be some confusion about who the occupation for Palestine began. Jonathan @Freedland appears to believe it started in 1967. But it didn't.

Here's a quick thread🧵
So did the occupation begin in 1948 - the #Nakba - when thousands were massacred and 750,000 expelled? No, not then either.

Did the occupation begin in 1909? That was when the first ‘Kibbutz’ was created in Umm Juni, by Arthur Ruppin, the head of the Zionist Organization office in Palestine. He was a devotee of ‘racial purity’ who was sympathetic to Nazi racial thinking.
An amusing bit of his racial purity obsession was that he thought that the Jews supposed reputation for avarice was because their racial stock had been diluted by mixing with Semitic people ie Arabs. He thought that the Jews were not Semites! Anyway, back to the occupation…
The kibbutz was given a Hebrew name a year later: Degania. The founders: ‘We have proceeded to establish an independent settlement of Jewish workers in the national homeland – a Commune.’ The clues are there if we wish to see: A Jewish only settlement. No Arabs allowed.
No, not 1909: what about 1878? ‘Petah Tikva’, often described as the ‘Mother of settlements’, was created then with financial help from Baron Edmond de Rothschild. but, it did not begin then, either.
What about 1815 when a settlement was created in Hebron by the extremist Chabad-Lubavitch sect (which originated in Russia/Ukraine)? Today it is headquartered in Brooklyn, New York City. Here is what it says about Hebron: chabad.org/library/articl…
But no, it may have been earlier: Russian Chabadniks had created settlements in Safed from 1777. safed.co.il/chabad-in-tzfa…
Things you should know about Chabad-Lubavitch: It's a supremacist organisation at the extreme end of the settler movement. According to Shin Bet ( Israeli intelligence agency) it’s responsible for about 80% of ‘price-tag’ revenge attacks on Palestinians.
So, in conclusion: The settlement and occupation of Palestine has been a long time coming. The descendant's of the earliest settlers are still there continuing the #Nakba through violence and land theft. Time to end the occupation.

2. The CST claim this slide showed ‘mainstream UK Jewish orgs & individuals in a network under "Israel government". In context of a lecture about Islamophobia this echoes conspiracy & dual loyalty tropes’
3. There are several false claims in this statement. First, the slide showed a pro-Israel group BICOM in the context of the ‘British Zionist scene’

📢Thread 📢The Sunday Telegraph has published a hit piece on me by @camillahmturner and @ImogenHorton98
Let's review the inaccuracies and weasel words used to insinuate antisemitism even while explicitly denying they are making such an allegation. bit.ly/2kskIwY
@camillahmturner @ImogenHorton98 2. The key element of the story is that two Jewish students allegedly felt ‘uncomfortable and intimidated’ following a lecture I gave on Islamophobia.
@camillahmturner @ImogenHorton98 3. In my response (which the Telegraph reported) I said that ‘Students of all backgrounds can find some of the material challenging if it goes against their existing beliefs or knowledge-base.’

@Brian_Whit @elenaevdokimov7 @nikita_thierry @RenieriArts @Malinka1102 @PiersRobinson1 @MichaKobs @VanessaBeeley 1. Lamani as UN Special Envoy was investigating the alleged chemical attack on the Syrian army in Khan-al-Assal on 16 March 2013. Russia, UK and US agree that this was a sarin attack.
@Brian_Whit @elenaevdokimov7 @nikita_thierry @RenieriArts @Malinka1102 @PiersRobinson1 @MichaKobs @VanessaBeeley 2. Malbrunot and Chesno quote Lamani as follows: 'A rebel group allowed chemical substances in through the border post of Azaz. An insurgent opened the products, which immediately provoked spasms. He died the next day...'

'...Informed of the incident, the Nusra Front immediately surrounded the village and demanded the return of the products in question, under threat of an all-out attack. The jihadists recovered the products.'

Are you saying that there are two types of witnesses in war? 1. Regime witnesses who are scared and cannot tell the truth; and 2. Syrian citizen witnesses who can only tell the truth?

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. There seems to be widely varying assumptions about how we know stuff, especially in the case of alleged Syrian chemical weapons attacks, which we have been debating for a week or so. It is inhibiting knowledge. A thread: apologies if it gets long.

The evidence supports a managed massacre as the most likely explanation of the Douma incident. We cannot say who carried out the massacre. People dressed as White Helmets were involved in dealing with the bodies of the victims.
