Josh. A thread

It’s hard to pinpoint the moment I became certain that Josh Frydenberg is not a man I want in our Parliament.

What I know is that I'm one of nearly 3,000 volunteers for @Mon4Kooyong, about 80% of who are volunteering like this for the 1st time.

1/15
During the first significant lockdown, I remember Josh using every opportunity he could to politicise Covid, and act in defiance of the health advice.

In our lowest moments, we needed support, but Josh prioritised his own political ambitions before Victorians.

2/15
In Vic's first outbreak when we were pursuing Covid Zero, all borders were closed to us, and there was no vaccine. We had to get to zero.

Despite having no choice, Josh continued to undermine the expert advice and kick, kick and kick us some more.

3/15
Even in May 2021, having achieved Zero in Victoria multiple times, Josh still referred to Victoria as the 'state of disaster'.

This at a moment when the federal govt had delivered no quarantine, and was on a go-slow vaccine roll-out.

He failed every leadership test.

4/15
But Josh's leadership failures are not limited to Covid.

Here he is, backing in his party's decision to retain Andrew Laming, despite what Laming did.

What we wanted is for Josh to say, 'Andrew's behaviour is not acceptable, so we've removed him from the party'.

5/15
In July 21, as the NSW outbreak was out of control, Laura Tingle invited Josh to apportion blame to the NSW govt as he had done to the VIC govt.

But Josh's criticism were only ever driven by politics, not by fundamentals. So he digs in, further.

6/15
Faced with a Vic outbreak, Josh reluctantly provided support, but applied a liquid assets test that meant people with savings would be forced to use that first.

Days later, when the same occurred in NSW, he scrapped the test.

Introducing the treasurer for NSW.

7/15
As the failure of his govt to order Pfizer as soon as it could became known, Josh changed his rhetoric.

To the disbelief of Victorians who endured lockdowns relentlessly criticised by Josh to save 1000s of lives, Josh incredulously took credit for saving those lives.

8/15
As things worsened in NSW, Josh cemented his position as the Treasurer for NSW by continuing to enact support that favoured NSW.

It was baffling to Victorians who had arguably done it tougher for longer. A fact that Josh politicised continuously.

But he doubled down.

9/15
A period continued at the beginning of the NSW outbreak where Josh still thought it was acceptable to play politics and continue to bash Victoria and Victorians despite following the health advice.

Nothing was off-limits for Josh. But things would soon change.

10/15
As things worsened further in NSW, Josh was asked to reflect on the comparative situations to see if he was willing to levy the same cheap commentary.

His propensity for describing NSW as the 'Gold Standard' was phasing out.

But his politicisation of tragedy continued.

11/15
It became clear that the NSW lockdown was baked in until vaccines were delivered, so suddenly Josh supported lockdowns.

This was insulting to Victorians who had endured his relentless politicisation of the strategy.

He even made Jokes about it, as Josh does.

12/15
We'd given up any hope of leadership from Josh by this point.

It came as no surprise that when invited to be a Leader on the Christian Porter blind trust scandal, he instead backed in Porter insisting 'it was in the rules'.

It's no wonder Kooyong wants an ICAC.

13/15
Despite all this, Josh has not once reflected on how he has treated Victorians.

Instead he sees this election foremost as a barrier to his own ambitions, because that's all that drives Josh.

Kooyong is only a vehicle to The Lodge for Josh.

14/15
This Saturday, choose a Leader, not Liberal.

Is this the greatest scandal in Victoria's electoral system?

Next election, run as an Independent, and the largest single donation you can receive is $4850.

The Liberal you run against can access $118M from the Lib's biggest donor: The Cormack Foundation.

Who is Cormack?..

Some history.

Years ago, the Govt gave radio licenses to the major parties. The Liberal Party ended up with radio station 3XY, established in 1935.

3XY broadcast from the ballroom in the Princess Theatre.

/2 Image
Despite struggling to attract a large audience, 3XY mitigated its advertising revenue shortfall by broadcasting numerous sponsored religious programs, which helped supplement its income.

Religious programming ended in the 60s.

In the end, it was worth a bit of money...

You probably know the start of this Olympic story, but do you know how it finished?

This photo is of Eric Moussambani, aka 'Eric the Eel' from Equatorial Guinea, competing in the 100m Freestyle event at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, alone.

Why?

/1 Image
Eric's heat started with 2 other competitors; one from Niger and the other from Tajikistan. Eric's competitors however both broke, and were disqualified, leaving him to swim this event alone.

Eric hadn't completed a full length of a 50m pool before, but he dived in anyway.

/2 Image
It seemed like he wasn't going to make the distance. Touching a lane rope would've been automatic disqualification.

He completed in 1:52.72, the slowest time in Olympic History, and for comparison, 47 seconds slower than I did recently, in my late 40s. Remember these times.

Today it was revealed that Victoria Liberal MP Richard Riordan's wife was instrumental in orchestrating the setup of fake patients at a Colac Health hospital for a Ministerial visit.

The scandal aside, this gets messier because...

/1 Image
A few months ago, when MP Richard Riordan was questioned about the fake patients, he defended the practice to ABC Richard Willingham, but curiously, doesn't appear to have disclosed his wife's involvement.

A report in the Guardian noted that the matter was referred to IBAC after allegations were reported in August 2023.

Interestingly, it was also reported that John Pesutto was calling for an independent investigation too, which may be more intriguing than it sounds.

A cautionary important thread on how the culture war mongers do their work.

The last week shows how Peter Dutton plans to win the next election, assisted by media who moonlight as the LNP PR machine, working in unison with a conservative lobby group funded by billionaires.

/1
If you want to see how these groups working together plan on manipulating your family and friends, this thread shows what they do, and importantly gives a taster of what is to come.

This is a look at the Woolworths 'story' this week, by zooming way out.

/2
The first key point to note is that Woolworths made no announcement.

1. There was no media release
2. There was no social media or signage in stores or ads
3. They didn't put spokespeople in front of a camera

Woolworths sought 0 attention. So how do we know?

Caroline Marcus at SkyNews is doubling down having been accused of not disclosing the backstory of the man she interviewed who said he felt intimidated by a Palestinian Flag pin worn by a Qantas flight attendant.

Here's 2 parts of Caroline doubling down. You be the judge....

/1
Part 1. In her latest, Caroline says, "he is not a branch president of the (Liberal) party as I have seen claimed online".

Why doesn't Caroline elaborate on "as I have seen claimed online"?

There's a good reason.

/2
Because it was claimed by Harrison Grafanakis, the man she interviewed on his very own LinkedIn profile.

When it was brought to Caroline's attention by @AltMediaWatch, she blocked them.

Curiously, Harrison has since removed the link. Why?

I’m in the Lobby of the @apolloDimora Hotel in Calicut India.

I leave in 18 hrs. The Hotel says unless they receive hundreds of dollars more than the amount agreed and pre-paid, they will hold my possessions.

A story of failure by @qantas Hotels, @expedia and @ApolloDimora.

/1 Image
How it started;

On 23 Sept, I booked for 12 Nights commencing 9 Nov at the @ApolloDimora Hotel via the @Qantas Hotels website.

This booking was paid in advance, in full, on a no-cancellation basis. I received a confirmation, a tax invoice and my credit card was charged.

/2 Image
I booked via @qantas rather than direct for 3 reasons.

1 My credit card is regularly blocked paying via Indian payment gateways.
2 My flights to India were booked with Qantas, including shoulder accom in Bangalore.
3 All bookings in one place is easier, or so I thought.
