The English government has created such a binfire in #ITE and #TPD#edpolicy to a point that former favourites & courtiers are now lawyering up to fight the gov’t for their survival. Students, schools & communities continue to lose out to culture wars promoted by the state. 1/7
Later in ‘22, the same Ministry for Education in England (*not Wales, Scotland or NI*) will demand universities & other providers hand over lecture notes, resources and book lists to ensure the teaching is what they want taught. And. Nothing. Else. 4/7 assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…
So, something special is going on in England with #edpolicy, worthy of study internationally. It’s a model of what happens when an authoritarian state asserts itself in culture wars in a chaotic and incompetent manner. As evidence-based reform, it’s fundamentally not serious. 5/7
And just in case you think cosying up & complying will save you from arbitrary & capricious state action, the last few months show that’s nothing more than a fantasy. It’s not about what matters. It’s all about control and the promotion of regressive social & cultural values.6/7
Shameless book plug: ‘The New Political Economy of Teacher Education: The Enterprise Narrative & the Shadow State’ by @maxandcleo72@warwickmansell & me, coming soon from @policypress. We study #ITE & #CPD policy across England, USA & Norway from #politicaleconomy perspective. 7.

These are ‘Key Messages’ from recent @Ofstednews training for inspectors taking place around the country. Three inspectors have now separately told me of their unease. Points on the handout below are recap of previous training conferences for schools inspectors in England 1/6
One said they were most worried about the capacity of some of their inspector colleagues to cope with the appropriations of psychological concepts in the training. Reportedly, even the trainers were not fully in control of the concepts & didn’t appreciate questions. 2/6
One inspector said that benign mediations of the inspection framework relied on the inspectors already being confident and knowledgeable about theories of learning before they had the training. 3/6
