Those who control the food control the world.

Half of the world’s Agri production is dominated by just four multinationals who wield disproportionate powers who since #UkraineWar have raked in tremendous gains from the price surges on grain markets.

It’s fishing and farming that became known as Brexit voting industries.
The government pretended that Brexit would help them.

Instead, the government’s post-Brexit actions have seriously harmed them, and in turn, our country’s access to vital home-produced food supplies.
There are around 100,000 farmers and about 12,000 fishers in the UK and those numbers are in decline.
Their vote couldn’t swing the referendum one way or another, but what they produce helps to keep the nation fed.
It’s no accident that these two industries were targeted and ‘owned’ by the Leave campaign.

Almond 🥛 and 🥑 are disastrous for the environment, vegans who buy them instead of 🇬🇧 🥩 and 🥛 should consider impact of diets says @AdamHenson

Those who attack livestock 👨‍🌾 for climate change while buying imported products with high environmental footprint are inconsistent.
One almond nut produced in California requires 12 litres of water and some farmers in the 🇺🇸 state are ripping out almond trees because of drought. Almond production in the 🇺🇸 has been criticised for harming 🐝 because it involves pesticides.
🥑 are water-intensive and rural communities in Chile have accused growers of illegally diverting rivers leaving them without water to serve demand in 🇬🇧 and elsewhere for a crop known as “green gold”. 🥑 production in Mexico has been linked to illegal logging and land clearances

🇬🇧 farmers feel helpless. They are forced by the law to abide by UK animal welfare rules, and then they are told they must compete on price with farmers in other countries who are not. It’s impossible.

Solutions? Well, they could take govt schilling and instead of farming ….
… move to a bungalow in Worthing so their land could be turned into a Lycra-based theme park for extreme cyclists and disciples of Street-Porter and Packham.

Or they could fight back and try pointing out to British consumers that food from abroad is cheaper because it’s shit.
there’s no point trying to explain that 🇬🇧 meat tastes better than 🇦🇺or 🇳🇿 or 🇺🇸 meat bc, even if it did, you’d need to be a beef sommelier to notice.

What 🇬🇧farmers can say is that the animal they raised will have been treated more kindly before it ended up on your plate.

U.K. govt is ending many forums for labour, NGOs, academics, and environmental groups to advise on trade negotiations.
“The depart has decided to stand down all sectoral [Expert Trade Advisory Groups] ETAGs with the exception of financial services,” said letters the Department for International Trade (DIT) sent to panel members obtained by Morning Trade UK.
“A key point to note is that ETAGs will no longer exist as a formal entity and we will need to consider whether they become Trade Working Groups or some other forum,” the letters said.

Govt are betraying 🇬🇧 by reneging on promises that 🇬🇧 would lead the world in animal and food standards. In desperate bid for 🇺🇸 FTA, govt is conceding to 🇺🇸 insistence that our existing food origin labelling is banned.

You won’t be able to work out what you’re buying/eating.
US negotiators regard our existing food origin labelling as a barrier to its exports and insist the practice is banned as part of any trade agreement.
Big changes are being pushed through Parliament in British agriculture and trade laws which ensure the safety and supply of our food. It means that low quality food will be imported from countries like USA/Brazil at artificially low prices to undercut 🇬🇧 farmers food producers.
