Labour shortages have resulted in “catastrophic” food waste and placed huge quantities of further crops at risk, British farmers have warned as they enter peak season for harvesting soft fruit and vegetables.

The limited number of seasonal visas for overseas workers threatens a contraction of the sector, including some farms going bankrupt, industry groups said, just as the recently published government food strategy has outlined the objective of boosting production.

Those who control the food control the world.
Half of the world’s Agri production is dominated by just four multinationals who wield disproportionate powers who since #UkraineWar have raked in tremendous gains from the price surges on grain markets.

“Russia holds cards in this war that may yet prove to its decisive advantage. When UN sec-gen warns of the spectre of a world food shortage, take notice. Equally, governor of BoE has been much derided for warning of food apocalypse …. but he is right.”

It’s fishing and farming that became known as Brexit voting industries.
The government pretended that Brexit would help them.
Instead, the government’s post-Brexit actions have seriously harmed them, and in turn, our country’s access to vital home-produced food supplies.
There are around 100,000 farmers and about 12,000 fishers in the UK and those numbers are in decline.

🇬🇧 farmers feel helpless. They are forced by the law to abide by UK animal welfare rules, and then they are told they must compete on price with farmers in other countries who are not. It’s impossible.
Solutions? Well, they could take govt schilling and instead of farming ….
… move to a bungalow in Worthing so their land could be turned into a Lycra-based theme park for extreme cyclists and disciples of Street-Porter and Packham.
Or they could fight back and try pointing out to British consumers that food from abroad is cheaper because it’s shit.

Govt are betraying 🇬🇧 by reneging on promises that 🇬🇧 would lead the world in animal and food standards. In desperate bid for 🇺🇸 FTA, govt is conceding to 🇺🇸 insistence that our existing food origin labelling is banned.
You won’t be able to work out what you’re buying/eating.
US negotiators regard our existing food origin labelling as a barrier to its exports and insist the practice is banned as part of any trade agreement.
