We just got a gold mine of Secret Service documents on Donald Trump, exposing how he used his protection to funnel taxpayer dollars into his pockets. Here's what we learned:
Trump went to his companies properties hundreds of times as president. He could've comped his Secret Service agents. Instead, he had them pay him nearly $2 million. citizensforethics.org/reports-invest…
The breakdowns are egregious. More than $300,000 to protect him at Mar-a-Lago. Close to $1 million at his golf courses. More than $400,000 at Trump hotels. All in his pocket.
Maybe the worst offense was in 2017, when he did an ostensibly good thing and visited victims of the Las Vegas shooting. Except he really used it as an opportunity to stay at a Trump Hotel and charge taxpayers tens of thousands for his protection. citizensforethics.org/reports-invest…
And to be clear, the trip didn't cost taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars, it cost over a million dollars. The tens of thousands are just the taxpayer dollars that winded up in his bank account.
So back to the thing about comping his security when he stayed at Trump properties. If you remember, Eric Trump said they weren't charging the Secret Service for rooms. Just like $50 to cover housekeeping. As you may have guessed, that was a lie.
In fact, when Eric Trump would stay at Trump Hotels, not only were his Secret Service agents charged for their rooms, they were forced to pay above the allowable government rate for their rooms. citizensforethics.org/reports-invest…
So what did we learn? That for Trump and his family, Secret Service protection was just one more way to line their pockets. You probably could've guessed that, but now we have the receipts to prove it.

This week we got a set of incredibly damning documents from the Secret Service about the Trump family. This is what we learned:
Donald Trump used his Secret Service protection as a way to funnel money into his struggling business empire. He pocketed nearly $2 million in taxpayer money from the Secret Service. citizensforethics.org/reports-invest…
All those hundreds of visits to Trump properties while he was president—it was just having a foot in the door of his old job, it was grifting the Secret Service's budget into his pockets.
ICYMI: We got a treasure trove of Secret Service documents, and there are some pretty outrageous examples of corruption buried in them.
For example, Trump managed to profit off his visit to victims of the 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas--a real low, even for him. citizensforethics.org/reports-invest…
All told, Trump’s businesses have made nearly $2 million from the Secret Service. $2 million of taxpayer money, paid to Trump’s properties by his protection detail. citizensforethics.org/reports-invest…
New records acquired by CREW show that the Secret Service has spent nearly $1.75 million at Trump properties since 2016—significantly higher than previously known. citizensforethics.org/reports-invest…
That’s a staggering amount, but it’s even worse: previously reported spending that doesn’t appear to be included in these records likely push the total to nearly $2 million.
To be clear, that’s nearly $2 million to Trump properties JUST for protecting Trump and his family.
Trump properties also charged the State Department and other agencies hundreds of thousands of dollars throughout the Trump presidency, meaning the full amount of taxpayer money that was funneled into Trump’s pocket is significantly higher.
We just got a treasure trove of Secret Service documents about Trump. We're going to break some news. First story coming shortly.
Here's our first story: the Secret Service has spent nearly $2,000,000 at Trump properties, way more than previously known citizensforethics.org/reports-invest…
Second story to follow shortly. It will take a deeper look at one particular trip to a Trump hotel.
During a summer 2019 hunting trip, Donald Trump Jr. killed a rare argali sheep. The Mongolian government issued him a hunting permit retroactively and he met with the country’s president. propublica.org/article/trump-…
We launched an investigation. We found taxpayers spent $17k on it, almost all going to a member of the Mongolian president's political party. citizensforethics.org/reports-invest…
