Honest question: we’ve had widely available guns in this country for hundreds of years. Why did mass school shootings only really start in the late 1990’s with Columbine? What changed to make this happen after 200 years where they mostly didn’t? I’m interested in opinions.
My own hypothesis is that Columbine unleashed a massive amount of copycats. Mentally ill people, who might not have otherwise considered the idea, saw the Columbine killers become famous and sought to replicate their notoriety and “fame.”
It’s why I don’t share any mass shooter names. Because I think the media attention and “fame” motivates this behavior to a large degree. I think the single most impactful thing any single individual can do to combat mass shootings is not to share shooter names.
There are media precedents for not naming shooters. We have rape shield laws that prevent the naming of rape victims. (This is for victims rather than the accused, but still a precedent that seems to work.) Much less seriously, sports networks won’t air people who run on fields.

Steve Kerr, who last night demanded new gun laws to keep kids safe, protested to demand the removal of all armed police from schools two years go. nbcbayarea.com/news/local/eas…
The fact not one media member last night — & there were dozens — asked Kerr to explain how his new demand for gun laws to protect kids squares with his prior demands to remove police from schools & defund the police is further proof of how worthless most sports media is.
Kerr, presently being hailed as a hero by left wing sports media, is actually a coward emblematic of many on social media. He has passionate opinions on whatever people are emotional about, even if it directly contradicts his prior emotional opinions.

Just to make it clear where we are: our government mandated 100% healthy people get covid shots provided by for profit companies or lose their jobs & is now telling us that one of the shots they told us to take isn’t safe & has life threatening side effects.
Our government also told us two covid shots would keep us from getting or spreading covid, sought to ban anyone who suggested otherwise, before later admitting it neither kept you from getting or spreading covid.
Our government also told us it wasn’t safe for our kids to go to school in person — even though kids have a statistically 0% risk from covid — & that we all had to wear masks, including two year olds, even though there is no data to support masks making any of us safer.

The left wing blue check panic over @elonmusk potentially buying @twitter is glorious. All the blue checks who have lectured us for years by saying, “It’s a private company, if you don’t like it, leave” are panicking like crazy over their echo chambers being challenged. Love. It.
I expect @twitter’s board has been furiously searching for an additional bidder since Elon Musk began purchasing his shares. Absent a second bidder, Musk has won no matter what the board decides. If they reject him he can buy the company at market or put together a coalition.
The board may well say they believe bid undervalues company & attempt to stall for additional bidder, but Musk can call their bluff by forming a coalition of shareholders to accept the offer via proxy or he can buy control himself on the open market. He wins absent higher bidder.

So let me get this straight a BLM activist tried to kill a Jewish candidate for mayor of Louisville — literally shot at him with a gun — & his bail, which was only $100k, was paid by crowdfunding. But Canadian truckers aren’t allowed to use crowd funding for their protest?
Imagine what would happen if a Trump supporter attempted to kill a minority running for office, only got a $100k bail, and right wing activists paid for his bail using crowd funding. This would be the lead story on MSNBC, CNN, Washington Post and NYT for WEEKS.
The crowd funding site would shut down the bail fund within hours and anyone who donated to that bail fund would have their names leaked and media & blue check activists would hound them for their donations, attempting to get them fired from work.

Brian Flores’s allegations in the complaint against the Dolphins for potentially intentionally tanking — and rewarding tanking by offering bonuses to lose, if true — are more significant than any of his claims of racial discrimination.
This would be fascinating to examine legally, however, since attempting to tank to improve draft position was probably the best move for the Dolphins long term. Instead of being anti-competitive, it was actually pro-competition in the long run.
The Dolphins owner could also easily claim he either never offered the extra $100k per loss or that he was joking. Depends on witnesses. Meeting with Brady before he was officially a free agent is a small issue at best.

If I’m Joe Rogan, I’m rooting for Spotify to fire me. Rogan would get most of his contract paid out, his audience would follow him, and he could start his own media company, which would likely make him even more money.
Spotify likely knows this too. Which is why they are bending over backwards to keep him. Interestingly the more Rogan gets attacked — by musicians or media critics — the more valuable his show becomes. He’s likely underpaid right now. Getting fired unlocks a gold mine for him.
There are certain people, in effect, who become uncancelable. Dave Chappelle, Joe Rogan, Howard Stern, before he became a total pussy, their audience is big enough they will be fine no matter where they are. Their fans are effectively able to cancel cancel culture.
