This is directed to young entrepreneurs who follow me on twitter.
It must be difficult time for many of you who are dreaming and aspiring for better and bigger things in life especially in the area of business. A young man shared his fears with me week!
He said i have realized that business growth in uganda attracts a lot of haters and I don't want to aspire for anything serious anymore. I was heart broken for him especially from his facial expression. I told him Uganda needs him to work hard, needs needs him creating jobs
As a young person trying to build a business, you must know that not everyone will spend their time fighting you, partly because everyone has his own issues to sort out. Some people who know your potential will support and you must look out for those. The haters are actually few
You must also accept the fact that most of are actually happy for to grow but when you do better than them, you become the target. Some will be people you call close friends/relatives and its they know your potential. Some don't want anybody to grow or become better than them.
I have been in tourism business for 25 years now and with time I have learnt so much about life. When I started out to be honest, very few people cared about me and what I was doing. I found people who had been in it for many years already and I took time to study number of them.
As I grew many were busy with their own stuff but some of them made me a target of hate especially in my 5th year of doing business. Its because I had saved up some money to build a shark of a Lodge called Primate lodge then. Its not an area many Ugandans ventured in at that time
Many Ugandans in tourism were convinced that was meant to be for Asians or guys from Europe and it was a shock for some to see a chap who they had seen a cleaner, office messenger and tour guide venturing in that space. Some made it their full time job to discourage me then.
What I decided to do was to simply focus on the tasks ahead, they thought I would fail in service, made it a point to understand who Lodges are run. I avoided all the persons I knew were negative, I avoided meetings where they would be to date, I fought hard to control my peace.
I must say controlling my space, who I give my time, who I hangout with, who I fall on twitter, Facebook has helped me focus and to be honest, the hate levels have so down. Some come to me for advise now. Hehe some chaps will recruit others into discouraging you from your goals.
Even here on twitter, I don't mind anybody saying rubbish about me on their walls( i actually go around looking for what people say about me or others), I control my space and I encourage respectful engagement. I want people to learn from many years of hustling and experiences
Am simply at take off level in business now not what others think and that has taken 25 yrs. If God gives me life which am sure He will, I can't wait to see what actually growth means in the next chapter of 25 years. I personally thrive more on positive energies, I love to laugh
The other important beats is to make sure am at peace with my immediate family, am at peace with my work, I make am in good physical shape, good enough to handle tasks or work am meant to do. I pray as much I can and seek for wisdom, knowledge, protection, favour before others

At a function last week, a friend says Amos, I have never seen you take alcohol. I tell him, I never intentionally take alcohol and asks, why? Lots of stuff I do today are partly formed my background. As a kid, I saw my parents drink a lot and fought alot due to it
Every little money my parents made was used for alcohol. We slept in a grass thatched house( one in bad shape)which was the norm then. They couldn't use a bit of it for either fees or cloths, even repair the thatch. The misery in the home was clear with physical fights always.
As siblings, we had many dads as well, our first born had a different dad, second born different dad me different etc and that too didn't help the situation at all. I always observed and as I grew older, I made up my mind on a number of things, one was never ever to drink in life
Our 2022/2023 Uganda National budget that will be read in June is ushs 47 Trillions but will maybe go upto 49 trillions by the time of budget reading it will be 49 Trillion shillings.
Out of 47 Trillion shillings, Revenue authority is expected to collect ushs 25 Trillion but I predict they will collect somewhere close to 20 Trillion shillings.
Out of 47 trillion shillings, 60% will be going towards recurrent expenditure( paying salaries etc) and 18% will be..
going towards paying debts we owe both within and without
What the above simply means is that what URA collects can't pay our recurrent budget( we can't afford to pay government salaries) because we can't collect 60% from tax payers.
There is a section of us Ugandans who will question a MP or Minister who builds a hotel or any other serious property. I recently read a whole article in one of the dailies about a person who had been a minister for very many years. The writer was praising the former Minister.
He said the Minister wasn't corrupt because he died without investing in a mall or a hotel and he probably didn't have a decent home as well and that was a sign of being corrupt free according to the writer. I was very shocked and I questioned myself
An MP takes home about 30m of a tax payers money, collected from an earning public and if they are a minister, they will take home about 50m a month. Anyone who earns that amount of money per month and can't invest in something that creates jobs, then who will do it?
Amos, you know I love Uganda from the bottom of my heart. But here is the attempt to compare two countries which you can not compare, and how many Ugandans have ever been in Spain that they can compare?
The majority can not even compare Uganda with Rwanda,
Kenya or Tanzania or even South Africa because they have never been there as "tourists".
Uganda on the one side with its nature gifts, with its beautiful landscape and very friendly people but a very low infrastructure
especially when it comes to tourism and prices far beyond the financial possibilities of a "normal European holiday maker" compared to Spain. Look on the websites of the big German travel agencies.
You can not find Uganda in the catalogues. You can get 1 week in Kenya at the...

Aisha came to @SafarisUganda as a trainee, fairly raw and with a very difficult attitude and because of that, she was recommended for firing by the human resource manager too many times justifiably so but somehow, I didn't sign her firing letters.
Being an employer is one of the most difficult things to be as a person because you are not meant to use emotions in decision making especially if people aren't doing the right stuff. I decided that Andrew, the GM and I sit this lady down for a counseling session because we are
both experienced persons and yes, I promised her, I would sign her firing letter if she didn't show signs of improvement! 6 months after counseling Aisha was being recommended for a 100% pay raise which happened and yes, I thought she was going to slow down after that...
