A team of scientists at Northwestern University in the US have accidentally created overly-aggressive mutant hamsters following a gene-editing experiment. 🐹
They were trying to increase bonding between the lovable animals but failed.
Using the controversial CRISPR technology, researchers at Northwestern University were examining a hormone called vasopressin and its receptor, Avpr1a.
They opted to try and remove the latter from a group of Syrian hamsters, with the expectation it would increase bonding and co-operation between the lovable little critters.
Avpr1a is understood to regulate things like teamwork and friendship as well as dominance and bonding 🐹

A Nasa satellite has captured the moment a massive underwater volcano home to sharks and other marine life - and nicknamed ‘Sharkcano’ - erupted in the depths of the Pacific Ocean 👇 metro.co.uk/2022/05/25/nas…
This particular volcano – the Kavachi volcano – is well-known to scientists following an oceanic study that took place there in 2015.
Researchers found that fish and sharks inhabit the super-heated sulfer-infused acidic waters around the volcano.
The water contains volcanic rock fragments and it’s believed the sharks may have actually mutated to help them cope with the extreme conditions 🦈😳
