Three months into Putin's genocidal total war on Ukraine, Putin's Global Rescue Team is assembling again. Heads of state, media, pundits, all the usual suspects eager to preserve a horrific status quo & sacrifice thousands of Ukrainian lives, and call it peace. 1/13
Ukraine is bleeding, without the weapons it asked for. Putin is rushing to annex more Ukrainian territory, issuing passports and currency, killing and deporting thousands and bringing in Russians, as he's been doing for 8 years in occupied Crimea and Donbas. 2/13
The profiteers and appeasers, working with or for Putin, like Kissinger, join the false "peacemakers" in France and Italy to send more Ukrainians to the hell of Russian occupation, dozens of Buchas to come. Who are they to tell Ukrainians how to live and die? 3/13
Putin knows the weapons will get there, in less than a month, so he is desperate to push the story of a stalemate, to get a ceasefire he won't honor. Under that cover he will consolidate territory, continue annexation, and liquidate any resistance. He's done it before. 4/13
Some allies are slow-rolling weapons deliveries, afraid of Ukrainian victory. If Ukraine makes more progress pushing Russia back, Western leaders might lose their coveted "peace for our time" moment and not be able to rush back to Russian gas & oil. 5/13
Ukraine needs air cover, while allies point fingers and play hot potato with who needs what permissions to provide jets and other weapons. Do they want the carnage to end, or just cover it up, postpone more, guaranteeing it will be worse next time? 6/13
Macron hoped Zelensky would be a Marshal Pétain for Ukraine, but he's turned out to be more a De Gaulle. Ukrainians don't want to live in a Vichy Republic under Putin's fascist regime. So they fight like hell for their nation--and for Europe and the free world. 7/13
But Europe is not fighting like hell for Ukraine. The "union" is not united, not standing for the values of its founding. A war for life & liberty has no room for friendly deals with aggressor dictators. What do France, Italy, Hungary say they stand for in doing so? 8/13
The Putin Rescue Team is unashamed even after the horrors of Mariupol and Bucha. Editorials still call for off-ramps and deals with a war criminal. If only these appeasers, safe and sound and well-fed, had a tenth of the courage Ukrainians have under fire. 9/13
Putin pushing for a deal is a sign to keep the pressure on, to destroy his invading army and to bankrupt him and his mafia. US leadership is required to keep turning the financial screws, to show them things will not improve until Ukraine is whole and free. 10/13
Stop thinking about concessions Ukraine can make. They are paying a terrible price in blood, with decades of rebuilding to come. They are paying for years of weakness and corruption of the European nations that eagerly did business & diplomacy with their invader. 11/13
Ukraine needs every weapon they ask for without hesitation. The free world is lucky to have a brave and skilled Ukrainian military on the front line of a war they never wanted, a war the West tried to pretend did not exist. They aren't a proxy, they are a partner. 12/13
Bankrupt Putin & his regime. Give Ukraine what it needs to win. Shame anyone who would rescue Putin from suffering the consequences of his murderous war. Ukraine must choose, and as long as they choose to fight we must fight with them. Glory to Ukraine. 13/13

Yes, Putin's war raises many questions. What are your loyalties? What does the EU stand for today? Anything? Or is it dead? Why is Scholz slowing down aid while the news from Ukraine gets worse and Russia is again talking about taking the entire country?
Two major EU nations are offering Putin a huge reward for aggression. What EU values does that reflect? Why aren't the allies breaking Putin's blockade of the Black Sea ports and the 22 million tons of grain sitting in Ukraine during a global food crisis of Putin's creation?
I'm furious. Ukraine probably has the strongest army in Europe on paper, but are outgunned in the East because the weapons aren't there. It's not logistics, it's cowardice and bullshit. There is no stalemate, no peace with Ukraine occupied. Either Ukraine wins or loses.

Kissinger's position is not merely immoral--if you care about such things--it's been proved wrong over and over. Conceding to great power spheres like Putin and Xi Jinping want isn't sustainable because dictators inevitably need conflict. This isn't the Cold War.
Modern dictatorships like Putin's aren't content with competition as internal development. "Our system will win." They know their system cannot win without directly attacking the free world. They only care about personal power and survival, not ideology.
The myth that Putin, Xi, & other dictators can be placated with economic engagement and political appeasement has been refuted. It drags the free world down to their level and spreads corruption while giving them more confidence to crack down at home & start foreign adventures.

These calls are idiotic and damaging to the cause of saving Ukrainian lives. Putin and, even more importantly, those around him, see him getting these calls and still being the big boss, making concessions less likely.
The impulse of Western leaders for 15 years has been to throw Putin a diplomatic lifeline whenever he commits an atrocity. You'd hope they'd notice that it only strengthens his position, leading to more repression and aggression.
The only thing that alters Putin's behavior are threats to his grip on power in Russia. Everything else is noise to him. Summits, calls, and offers to save face do the opposite. Instead, make it clear there is no way back for Russia & his cronies with Putin.

The time has come for the oligarch cowards and thugs who never had to choose between their lives of comfort in the West and backing Putin's dictatorship and foreign aggression. washingtonpost.com/world/2022/04/…
This reckoning also exposes the Western national & international systems that welcomed Russian cash, people, trade, and other business that funded Putin's repression & war. Legal or illegal, it must end.
Listen to Putin's anonymous billionaires whine about how the systems they built or corrupted to drain Russia for decades have been unraveled in weeks. They've been nationalizing the costs and privatizing the profits and it's ending.

Time to talk about Germany, Russia, and if their corrupt relationship is really over. The Telegraph report of weapons to Russia is ugly, but small compared to decades of Germany "separating business and politics" which was nothing but appeasing Putin. jpost.com/international/…
That former chancellor Gerhard Schröder is an active Putin agent is bad enough. War and war crimes aren't enough to get him to renounce his boss. That Schröder still maintains political ties and influence in Germany is inexcusable.
Merkel has been quiet, as a few other German officials have grudgingly admitted their appeasement policy with Putin was wrong. It was worse than that. Projects like Nord Stream 2 were vital lifelines for Putin politically while financing repression and his war machine.

Of the many appeasing & contrary to history and reality pieces I have read during Putin's war of extermination in Ukraine, that by Jeffrey Sachs at CNN is the worst. NATO enlargement is the best *guarantor* of peace, as is obvious by where Putin chooses to invade.
Saying a majority of the world isn't against Putin because Xi Jinping allies with his fellow dictator is pathetic. Sachs' article is all about what the free world should do to make Putin and other dictators happy, when the opposite is the only way to deter their aggression.
Bullies attack when they sense weakness, not when they feel threatened by strength. Putin has never really cared about NATO expansion, it's a red herring that Sachs and other apologists use as frequently as dictators do in their propaganda.
