So, it had been such a depressing couple of days that I went to see #TopGunMaverick tonight

Thoughts

1. It was VERY fun...the fighter scenes were unbelievably good...yes, at times silly and improbable (to say the least) but really FUN

2. The main plot owes royalties to Star Wars and the different movies that covered the Doolittle Raid (WW2)

3. Yes, they paid homage to the most homoerotic scene in the history of hetero military movies (which is really saying something)...If you have seen the original #TopGun you know what I am referring to

4. Did I mention the flying? It is unquestionably the Citizen Kane of movies about flying and dogfighting

5. The bad news, if you care about movies that aren't made by Marvel succeeding, the theater was only 1/3rd full <at most> which truly shocked me....I figured just on nostalgia and good reviews it would have been packed

I mean, not to put too fine a point on it, but I went to see Downton Abbey last week and it was packed (smaller theater, but it was still more total people).

Just depressing TBH

Anyway, I would recommend it...it was goofy, silly, and engaging Summer fun at a time when we all probably could really use some goofy, silly, and engaging Summer fun...
