Tearing down institutions for short-term political gain is not Conservative. It’s dangerous and short-sighted.

Mr. Poilievre is skilled at pointing out problems with institutions, but after 18 years in power, he doesn't have a single serious solution as to how he'd fix them.
I believe in serious reform, not destruction.

Here's a few examples of what I mean:

🏦The Bank of Canada needs to be more transparent with Canadians how their decisions are made, and the evidence used to make those decisions.
⚖️The Ethics Commissioner needs to be given real teeth, so that when politicians like Justin Trudeau break the law, they face meaningful consequences.

📱The CRTC regulates far too much outside of its mandate and core expertise. They should never wade into content regulation.
🇨🇦 Parliament, not the Prime Minister's Office, should be the driving force in our government. I will reform Parliament to return power to MPs and thereby make all of government more accountable to Canadians.
🛂 Service Canada is currently unable to get Canadians passports in a timely manner.

I’d like to see many core functions of Service Canada be subject to market forces and actually reward people who can deliver these services in a timely manner.
We will review CBC’s mandate to keep it focused on things the private sector can’t deliver.

CBC doesn't need to buy American shows to rebroadcast them here. We get enough American content from Mr. Poilievre.

But defunding our nation's broadcaster entirely will harm Canada.
These institutions have developed over generations, and Conservatives should be suspicious of those who want to tear them down before attempting serious reform.

Reform takes courage and principled leadership.

We stand with the victims of the Quebec City mosque shooting. We must ensure this never happens again in our society.

We will introduce stronger sentences for those who commit hate crimes: jeancharest.ca/safety/
After a thorough review of the current SCC decision and in consultation with the provinces, the Government of Canada must make it clear it’s intention to allow consecutive sentences for heinous crimes.

A Charest government will enact such legislation.
The decision to use the notwithstanding clause is not a choice to be taken lightly. Every effort must be made to ensure respect for judicial independence and the rule of law.
