For the past few weeks, the public is continuing to find out how entrenched these national organizations that are supposed to represent physicians are in the money of politics. 🧵 1/
First, when talking about the overturn Roe, it was revealed that @acog has donated to anti-abortion candidates though their PAC. Many of us who are members of ACOG are in support of reproductive choice and in fact, many dues paying members are abortion providers. 2/
Now, it has been reported that numerous other physician professional organizations have been donating heavily to politicians who have A+ ratings by the NRA, all while some of these same organizations have been putting out statements in favor of gun reform. 3/
#MedTwitter these organizations say that they are representing our interests when giving these donations. Oftentimes, like in the case of @acog, we join these organizations so that we are in good professional standing. 5/
We have to pay dues to these organizations to be in good standing and they use this money to support people fighting against what most of us truly believe in. Now it's time to hold these organizations accountable for the money they are spending in OUR names! 6/
Unfortunately, these organizations may try to claim that they are apolitical - but they aren't. And it's shameful that they use our dues and state that they represent what we believe when I can't remember a time being asked by any of these organizations what my politics are. 7/
