I’ve been seeing #Swedengate and have enjoyed that it’s allowed others to share — and the info be received — that Sweden (as other Nordic European countries) have racist colonial histories that persist.
I saw a response saying: “we give billions in aid to poor countries”
and…
“What happens in aid is similar to what happens in military expenditure. When the govt. spends on national defense, most of the money stays in the [country] to pay wages and purchase equipment, supplies, and services; in this way the defense budget helps stimulate the economy…”
“[the] foreign aid budget is not a loss, but rather a contribution to the domestic economy”
— still from Carty; and relevant to note here because it’s really tiring to hear European + Anglo-settler state citizens bemoan, or uplift, their aid contributions to the less fortunate
without ever realizing that the majority of their aid donation (80%+) actually goes towards stimulating their own corporations and wages — with only a tiny fraction of the actual aid reaching said poor country, and when it does, going to said poor countries wealthy/elite classes.
When studies have shown that foreign aid doesn’t work — just as studies show that sanctions don’t work, and like foreign aid causes more harm than good — I wish people would actually investigate why, versus repeating talking points to seem like they’re helping anyone.
Other “aid” tricks to “less fortunate” states by European + Anglo-settler states (which effectively makes the aid nil in comparison to European + Anglo-settler extraction + profits in these same “less fortunate states):
- the aid budget includes admin costs in giving country 🙃
-the aid budget includes anytime they’ve “forgiven” debts — meaning debt forgiveness itself it registered as a “contribution” by giving country, even tough debt forgiveness doesn’t mean any money was given 🙃
-food aid gets counted , even as it just gets rid of giving country’s surplus (this surplus encouraged by rich countries subsidizing their farmers). Agro-subsidies need to go, bc they keep food exporters prices low + dispossess poor farmers from their land for corps🙃
-the aid budget includes some portion of loans, even though loans have to be paid back to giving country 🙃
-the aid budget includes tied aid that typically privileges giving country goods, services, costs to export said goods & services. Meaning money is wasted in aid 🙃
Atrociously, the aid lie always bugs me as it regards Haiti — since people believe Haiti gets millions/billions of aid, without realizing giving countries literally funnel that $$$ to themselves + their corporations, not to Haiti or majority of Haitians (since again, elite get)
Then why does aid happen? Because of capitalism:
it generates goodwill for the system, while downplaying that it upholds inequality, by continuing to uplift domestic economies of already wealthy states + elites in poorer countries, that people can put their support behind 🙃
I don’t remember who said it on the #CSA2022 call this morning at open — since I was away from screen — but it’s literally just “pimping poverty”
I’ve been told that racists have swarmed the replies of this thread — but I don’t see reply notifs really — so I checked and sure enough the basic insult from social-welfare Europeans is to call people “apes” and to “go back to Africa.” Nothing about the truth of the thread 🤭😂
I also won’t lose sleep over being called an ape; and I’ve always thought it was a weird insult anyway since I think apes and monkeys are actually cute.
My fave gif of all time 😍🥰

Anytime an oppressing force is advocating for “depoliticization” of any particular issue, it is always the case thah they’re making the claim that their stance on the issue is the “objective” one/fact.
It shouldn’t be seen as wrong to acknowledge something as “political”
Was having this conversation this morning, in relation to something as simple as funding — where STEM fields are getting $$$ in comparison to social sciences, given “objectivity” (apparently) in STEM analysis and that’s nonsense.
This is how we have whole economic fields that don’t teach history. Economists who, outside of reciting the “invisible hand,” haven’t really read Adam Smith, his understanding of the market and ideal types or the context in which he was writing in.
Reparations talk in USA is always limited, due to the intentional severing of Black internationalist thought by US state agencies + US liberal “inclusion” project of integration, assimilation, & representation of African Americans in US project— at expense of Black solidarity.
The only reason you can have a reactionary ahistorical US ADOS project, is due to broader US propaganda that exceptionalism’s the AA experience, negating that the Trans-Atlantic slave trade took place in the Western Hemisphere — uncle throughout the Americas and the Caribbean —
to the point that I’ve seen AAs argue here that the enslaved in the Caribbean “had it better” — as if it was not Caribbean + South Am. slavery which fuelled the height of empire and enslavement throughout the world; and made up the majority of those enslaved this side.
1) of the 8 French colonies in the Caribbean only three are independent — Haiti, Dominica, St. Lucia
2) of the 7 Dutch colonies in the Caribbean, none are independent.
French & Dutch imperialism have always established themselves to be long
lasting and their propaganda campaigns in the Caribbean strong (via leveraging passport prívele he to dissuade referendum & other votes on independence). Geographically their colonies in the Caribbean serve as extraction + security sites aiding US imperialism in Cent + South Am
So actual imperialism + colonial administration continues to maintain relevancy in the region — even though the current en vogue fashion of the term “imperialism” is being applied inadequately 🙃

I’ll keep saying it: too many in Anglo world (esp USA) don’t view Russians as people deserving of rights. We know when they securitise people this way they’re priming to justify any and all violence towards them.
This is the same type of terroristic rhetoric that justifies bombing and droning in the Middle East and in Africa; the same type of rhetoric that has people in the Anglo world turn a blind eye to Western military operations with civilian death rates exceeding 90% in those places
The same type of sadistic rhetoric that justifies sanctions that cause famine, medicine shortages, etc. pushed by many of these same *sadistic Western academics* that make up the majority of international relations and political science departments in Anglo + Anglo settle states.
It’s dehumanising when western media + tech label journalism from states they dislike as “state affiliated” — to signal it’s *automatically* propaganda— because they’re declaring people in these states as incapable of critical thinking, research, investigation, and writing.
They also do this, even though mass amounts of research exist showing that investigative journalism and informative journalism, are on the decline — and have been for decades — in their own states. Research showing Western media fooling + lying populations into wars, etc.
But they don’t receive these same labels, and are able to automatically position themselves as “objective,” “factual,” “moral,” and having the “freedom” to engage in critical thinking, research, investigation; again, even as research on Western media doesn’t bare any of that out.
Racism as Russian (and in the past,
USSR) disinfo is probably one of the more sinister weaponisations of racism that reoccurs every time a geopolitical situation with Russia (@ prev USSR) and the West is being had. The goal is (and has always been) to stop connections made
between racism & broader anti-war and anti-colonial struggles.
It’s very hard to not be condescending towards ppl gleefully sharing — earlier on during COVID-19 — videos of anti-Black racism in China against African migrants, now saying racism isn’t happening @ European borders
of all (fckn) places, bc they don’t want their pro-war, pro-capitalist, pro-white supremacist predisposition to be called out.
At time when western media and politicians are making it plain that they prefer white refugees form Ukraine *because* they’re white, we’re being told
