last week polkadot hosted a splashy presence at the annual @WEF Davos meeting. watching the vids = 100x confidence in :

let's get it out of the way

WEF has an infamous reputation & many in crypto view them with deep skepticism. accurate or not popular lore describes WEF as intently focused on centralizing global authority

vs crypto aspirations to disrupt the status quo through decentralization

thankfully @Kantrowitz asked polkadot creator gavin wood directly : considering this apparent contradiction why come to davos ? is this a political statement ?

his response :

besides the centralizers there are people at davos with open minds and a desire to understand what tools can help the world get to a better place. the message of decentralization is important and needs to be in the conversation

a far ranging talk on "web3" and decentralization ensued with many informed, critical questions posed. definitely recommend watching the whole video

the essence of what i took away from gavin's thoughtfully chosen statements :

web3 and decentralization are inherently political

he defined decentralization as structurally reducing the amount of power over a system that any individual economic actor has

and spoke a great deal about things having gone too far with systematic online privacy violations by unaccountable states and governments

in another talk he announced "project liberty" an upcoming decentralized web3 social media platform he's developing on polkadot ... details still a bit scant certainly seems interesting 👀

to my thinking organizing and publicly championing efforts to exclude big tech & govt intelligence agencies & from our private communications requires ideological conviction & courage

gavin wood appears to possesses those qualities to a degree that inspires and motivates others

ideology aside, to succeed in such an ambitious undertaking the tech has to be the best. with @Polkadot, it is ☑️

inherent cross-chain interoperability = NO MORE INSECURE BRIDGES

shared security = NO MORE DICEY VALIDATORS

forkless upgrades = NO MORE UPGRADE FORKS

gavin's brilliant contributions deeply integral to the creation of ETH. he created solidity so has a pretty good understanding of its limitations

vs ETH solidity, DOT substrate codebase :

- simplified
- modular
- extensible
- designed from the ground up for interoperability

so far as legitimacy + the number of developers in ecosystem reaching critical mass, DOT ostensibly the only credible competitor to ETH

several parachain teams also went to davos

short space for the myriad details here but suffice to say what sets these teams apart from most of crypto :

☑️ building solid, technical standards based blockchain solutions for real world users

vs the shady world of typical crypto "partnerships"

for these projects blockchains, tokens, knowledge graphs, and web3 = the means to solving real world problems, not an end in themselves. real substance. legitimate partnerships

also very cool to see the reciprocal excitement among parachain projects mutually recognizing synergies at davos 👀 seems like multiple cross-parachain partnerships / integrations will result

so far as the promise of "the metaverse" and web3, trillions in new value stand to get created as global enterprises enter the vast field of unexplored possibilities at the intersection of internet native money + the digitization / virtualization of everything

now that DOT is nearly ready for primetime the real world relationships forged + successful pilots these teams have completed will mean fortune 500 & government use cases getting built on DOT

DOT ecosystem proving legit real world merits & succeeding sensationally = baked in

so i'm very bullish DOT eco & looking ahead intend to seek investment opportunities primarily in #dotsama

going to the belly of the beast @ davos and preaching decentralization an audacious move but @gavofyork & these parachain teams pulled it off like absolute champs
