A universal truth I've seen on blogs that dominate search consistently is that they write with active sentences
Here's what I'm talking about👇
An active voice...
✅Puts your reader in the moment and makes it easy to understand your message
✅Turns your CTA into a command
✅Evokes stronger emotion and engages the reader
✅Moves the plot along and keeps you in control of your writing
A few examples:
Passive voice: Jenny is really loved by me
Active voice: I love Jenny
Passive voice: Emeka was killed by a fart
Active voice: A fart killed Emeka
The difference is the sentence structure
Passive sentences are lengthy and more descriptive, while active writing is punchier, with emphasis on the action, rather than the performer of the action.
It's shorter without losing meaning
Brief, yet impactful
A big help for me is reading sentences aloud when proofreading
Sentences with an active voice are easier to read and digest. If it sounds awkward, I’ve probably used a passive voice.
Culprits include helping verbs like:
Should, will, would, may, could, can, does, being, be, should be, has had, and be, is, was, are, and were
Sometimes, sentences can stand alone without these verbs.
Eliminating or restructuring turns a passive sentence into an active one.
Grammarly Premium (paid version) and the Hemmingway App are great tools to explore.
Or better yet, hire an editor

Most times, the competitive edge you need with blog content is to write every H3 like a mini-article
- Define the concept
- Explain the problem
- Use a stat or quote to back up words
- Throw in an example with screenshots
- Add a bullet list of solution
- End with recommended further reading on the h3
Obviously, not every H3 will follow this exact format and you'll have to switch it up or leave out a few steps, but where possible, this is how I write h3 subheadings
How do you choose which keywords go into the cluster when working on a competitive topic with a ton of searches?
A big ass thread😎
A bit of a background information
The client is an agency. They hired me to build four clusters for some of the services they offer such as paid ads, SEO, lead generation and content marketing
These are massive keywords and the cluster they paid for only had space for ten topics each
