As a doctor, for me KK’s death is a tragedy that we may have avoided IF - We could have had timely bystander CPR, if instead of taking him to the hospital he could have revived first aid on site which is very much possible with a equipped ACLS ambulance with a doctor and + #KK
If the venue had a portable AED.
I have raised the issue of importance of bystander CPR & mandatory BLS training in India multiple times.
Also, atleast in Delhi (because we have received such emergencies) event holders ensure that an ambulance with a doctor is on standby.
The standby has to be at the venue and ideally the ambulance should be an ACLS ambulance this allows us to give immediate treatment on site in scenarios like ACS.
Also, it is high time India starts focusing on enabling telemetry ECGs & in ambulance thrombolysis as a norm in STEMI

Everytime I come across such news be it this or the Salmonella poisoning with the Belgian chocolates in Europe recently, the public health person in me is reminded of the pathetic state of affairs that would be in case something similar were to happen in India because +
because of absolutely non-existent coordination among Food & drug safety & Infectious diseases reporting mechanisms & infrastructure or effort to even pin point such sources through a source investigation
We don’t even have the necessary infrastructures or awareness in place +
Also, if by some Goddamn chance we were still to find a link on investigation then the result would not be accepting the scenario and taking corrective actions rather an attempt by all concerned (including manufacturers) to avoid the blame & denial +
I am not sure if Indian elite (who are Infact largely responsible for this) realise that the road which this country is fast tumbling down with the gyanvapi & Muslim hate rubbish, is going to destroy them faster than they will realise & that time is not far off.
More businesses are seeking an alternative or divesting out of India than WA university forwards give you an idea, market sentiment for Indian investments is a huge +/- ball game & our ruling politicians are unwilling to help this scenario.
The fall out will be equally for all, but the wealth and privilege that blinds our elite with indifference is what going to get wiped off faster and the impacts will be felt more acutely by them.
As global recession begins and will set in we are looking at financial nightmare
Allow me to introduce you to the two Poisons of our time, with which are poisoning ourselves and also our children on a daily basis -
Uncontrolled
Salt/Sodium
Sugar
In our daily diet which we consume without any mindfulness.
This thread began cuz last week I diagnosed a 20 yr old with Hypertension.
On evaluation we could not find any of the routine organic culprit for hypertension in such a young person. Patient was a non-smoker, slightly overweight but not obese.
I found the culprit in their Diet.
I took a detailed history of the very day diet that this kid has been consuming on a daily basis, some common ingredients that we allow our children to consume unsuspectingly came about in the list - Readymade pasta, Namkeen, Sauce, Mayonnaise, Maggi, Cornflakes, chips, biscuits
Why do students leave India for #MedEd is not a simple answer - Seat mismatch to lay persons seems like the most plausible issue which can be addressed by increasing number of hospitals or seats.
IMHO this won’t change the scenario
The reason being - Cost of education in private med schools is elitist & is unaffordable by commoners, so unless seats in public institutions increase students will prefer affordability.
Other far greater determinants are duration of study & duration needed from entry in college to a viable (viable is important) earning ability - This duration in India is far too long with too many riders - bonds, not enough seats in post grad or super speciality, loan costs etc
It doesn’t matter - Whether or not viruses mutate to become less pathogenic over time is correct or incorrect (A lot of people are referring to this hypothesis in context of Omicron & to push through that this means end of the pandemic) - because as I see it
Omicron is able to infect despite boosters or natural infection+ full vaccination dose and is highly infectious, which means now it has the advantage to reach hosts (immunocompromised or non-vaccinated) that can aid further mutations faster than its predecessors.
I can understand that a lay person can consider Omicron a good news cuz they don’t understand what increased transmissibility means but when microbiologists, evolutionary biologists and virologists talk this rubbish I have a problem.
Gupta ji, there are many sides to this debate and there are too many associated takes, however justifying it by nullifying the right of choice of women by garbing it under modernity or liberalism is the worst of all.
Your take especially in the backdrop of surrounding circumstances, involvement of rogue elements and the constitutionality involved demonstrates your lack of understanding of both modernism & liberalism apart from displaying how little you understand feminism.
If the choice of personal wear begins to undermine the access to education of any child, and you as a political editor and as a citizen are alright with justifying the cause of it then there is something hugely wrong with you & the likes whose mouthpiece you are.
