This article makes clear Democrats have got to do more, and we can't wait until the last minute to do it. The work to undermine our elections in 2022 and 2024 has been moving along quietly and steadily since 2020.
Their focus is on the local level so that when they make arguments that can change the outcome of an election, they'll make them to sympathetic decision makers. And they'll be in a better position to move elector-choosing authority to Republican-controlled state legislatures.
Our friends at national organizations are not going to be able to save us. The work is on the ground, at the precincts. That's where we need support and resources. And we need that year-round.
Ds run voter protection programs. Rs are standing up "election integrity" programs. While the mission of vopro is to help people vote, election integrity operations seek to limit the kinds of people who vote, and introduce chaos, disruption, and doubt into election administration
Whereas Democrats focus their voter protection efforts widely, Republicans focus their election integrity efforts on heavily *Democratic* districts. That should tell you everything you need to know about their motives.
Part of what makes voter protection work so challenging is not only are we trying to help people vote, we are simultaneously trying to prevent and mitigate the disruption caused by those who seek to win by cheating.
I've been on the front lines of this fight as the Georgia VoPro Director. I co-founded @powerthevote in 2021 because my colleagues and I knew year-round, local-level voter protection was necessary to combat what was coming.
I'm running for the Georgia Legislature because I have an experience and background that is critically needed right now. I've been fighting for Georgians, and I'm not about to stop now.
I hope you'll trust me with your vote on June 21. #hd90
Let me tell you about the shameful performance I saw by Ga House Republicans this morning when SB463 was discussed in committee. SB463 revises the GA election code, and passed on a party line vote.
A thread.
The following amendment was offered this morning for the first time.
It precludes state and local election officials from sending Georgians absentee ballot applications-- something that helps Georgians vote safely during a pandemic, and generally increases voter participation.
Some context: When COVID hit, @GaSecofState made the decision to proactively mail absentee ballot applications to 6.9 million active voters. The idea was to remove one step from the multi-step vote-by-mail process and make it easier for voters to access VBM during a pandemic.
