Today marks the start of Pride Month and at Boyle Street we’re starting out our celebrations with the raising of the Progress Pride Flag! #Pride2022#LoveIsLove 1/5
Over our 50 years of serving Edmonton’s vulnerable, we’ve striven to create spaces that were welcoming and inclusive of everyone across the spectrum of human experience. We’re still learning as we grow, but ...

...we’re consistently striving to create awareness, spread knowledge, and value diversity. In our efforts to serve our 2SLGBTQQIA+ clients & colleagues, we’ve interacted & created partnerships with organizations like @chewprojectyeg & the @e2s_2 Edmonton 2 Spirit Society;

...We’re conducting an equity audit to ensure we’re living up to the promises we’ve made to keep our spaces safe and inclusive; and we have further trainings planned to help us continue our responsibility to stand up for those who have been historically marginalized.

Pride is a time to acknowledge what's going well, what we can do better & to honour those advocates that came before – who stood up against discrimination, putting themselves in harm’s way – so that we could have equitable freedoms & choices, & feel safe in our communities 5/5

Bob Frohlich is our tireless and empathetic ID Services Coordinator, and his work is often integral to helping our clients break the cycle of poverty. This is just one of his stories that we wanted to share with you today: (Thread)

"Charlie (name changed) had just arrived in Edmonton from northern Alberta. He stood in front of me with all his belongings (a back pack). His long black braids told me of the pride he carries as an Indigenous man. 2/5 📸: Keagan Henman on Unsplash
"He had worked in the oilfield industry for most of his life but due to changing circumstances, he was homeless, had no income, and lacked ID. Charlie was eager to 'get back on the rigs,' but he needed some help. His dream is to one day to have a 'nice' place of his own.

Today in #YEGDT we held an open house for our #ManagedAlcoholProgram (MAP) and their new space - we even got to sample the wine that clients brew themselves. It got grape reviews!
Big things are happening at the MAP space - they just moved into a bigger area to give participants a more dignified and functional drop in space with plenty of activities and ways to get to know each other.
We also started filming a short video that will highlight the positive outcomes and life changing aspects of MAP. We’ll be featuring participant voices as well as agency partners that have seen really incredible stories arise. Stay tuned for that!
