this is an analysis on all the scenes with mirrors on the show. This is an interpretation, which it's full of subjectivity, meaning u can agree or not with this, this is just my pov on how i interpret these scenes

mirrors can have multiple meanings when they are present in different media, in bridgerton, i believe, it is used to reflect the truth, the soul and the self-reflection of the characters.

in this thread i have decided to focus on kate and anthony, and a little bit on edwina.
bc i focused on kate and anthony, there's also another meaning added with the mirrors, it's basically their twin flame energy.

and bc of the bit of edwina we have another meaning added: kate and edwina's relationship with the society and each other, which is repeated in edwina and anthony's scenes with mirrors

In ep 1 the first time we see a mirror it's kate watching herself with the dress for edwina, and we see a glimpse of kate's soul, that kate, besides of being pragmatic, she is a romantic too, and wants to participate in the whole marriage deal, specially after meeting anthony

altho realistically she knows she won't be a good candidate as edwina (bc of her age like lady d said in the prev scene) so when edwina shows up it’s like a wake-up call, and the sign she needed to be back to that mindset, giving her back to the mirror and herself

we also have edwina being reflected in the mirror showing her soul, that she has a lot of concerns of not being liked in the society, and a truth, she wants kate to participate with her in the season, which it’s why she looks happy watching her trying the dress but

but kate shots that hope down remarking that all is for her only.when they leave the mirror frame kate calms her her down, reassuring her about their relationship and making her think on what she is looking for a husband, while they are not in the mirror frame they are themselves

in this ep, we have another instance where kate shows how she is not focusing on herself and also the tells lady d' the truth, about the sheffields deal

in the same ep, we have anthony's study mirror which during the whole stay away montague never looked at it, showing his focus on his duty and not himself. after lady d’s ball, we have anthony being reflected by the mirror but still not looking directly at it

however, this scene shows,for me,an act of self-reflection about everything that has gone down till that moment(including s1) and while doing his viscount work, he symbolically lets siena go, and unofficially lets his rake’s days in the past.

mirrors also reflect kate and anthony’s twin flame energy,the first time we have them it’s in ep 2,even tho the mirrors are hidden, this is the moment we saw anthony receiving a little taste of his own medicine when kate does to him what he did last year with daphne’s suitors

also in this ep we kate and edwina, while discussing their meeting with the queen the focus is on edwina reflecting on her encounter with the queen, and kate giving also eddie full focus, thus we have edwina reflection in both mirrors, and kate giving her back to it

but when anthony’s shows up, kate's soul/self it’s reflected and also stepping out of the mirror she behaves like herself without the society constraints, which basically it's her roasting anthony, even tho he is a viscount

after anthony’s failed attempt to read poetry, and after that pointed looked they share, kate is pacing in front of the mirror, not directly looking at it, avoiding facing the truth on how much he has affected her with his look and his words, and her feelings towards him.

in ep 3, in the flashbacks, in hyacinth’s birth , anthony is pacing in front of a mirror, in this scene, i believe it’s a way to show how he has stopped being anthony, and be the viscount with some struggles performing his role.

we have the “courtship” scene between edwina and anthony, and i find interesting that the mirrors in the room,one of them does not reflect them but the one that does has anthony completely giving his back, showing in this scene he is not displaying his true self

he is playing a part, i think, similarly edwina is doing the same, except she is displaying herself while still playing the part, while talking about why she is agreeable and her pleasure about literature

while discussing edwina's audience with anthony we see a mirror that reflect edwina showing her excitement and like the plan getting all coming together, but it does not reflect kate, showing her restraint of saying what she was actually thinking

mostly bc of edwina’s sake i believe but also bc she does not want to face/show her true feelings, while out of the mirror we see again edwina and kate having a more honest talk about tony's courtship

we have the oil hair scene, where both kate and edwina face the truth that maybe anthony was not actually serious about the courtship, and that edwina feels a lot of pressure about the whole thing, it’s a reality check that hurts them both

in ep 4 we dont have any scene where kate and anthony are close to any mirror, which for me, it’s an indication about how they didn’t want to take a moment to reflect about everything they were going through with their emotions and feelings

however, the 2 times that mirrors are present in this ep, it’s @ kate’s room, and it’s 2 scenes where she avoids to tell the truth to edwina about what’s she’s being thinking of, and what actually happened during the bee sting and the hunting

in ep 5 the mirrors are EVERYWHERE.

so first we have to talk about the beginning and end of the ep with anthony in the bathtub. the first one you can see he is clearly avoiding to look directly to it, he cannot face the truth that he does not want to do what he is doing, even tho he is fulfilling his duty

contrary to that scene, in the last part of the ep he is seen in the bathtub self-reflecting more but also his reflection it’s not seen fully after he takes his decision, which was ending his engagement and disappear from the sharmas’ lives

in this ep we have another moment where anthony faces the truth of what he is doing, which it’s when he is trying on his groom suit, where he finds it it’s not perfect, projecting a little there anthony my dear

kate it’s also in denial, while edwina it’s @ the modiste, not about the wedding, but about what happened with anthony @ ah and what she actually feels about anthony, which it’s why she is not facing any of the mirrors there.

edwina, however,is reflected in the mirrors, she got the proposal, she is getting married everything is going according to the plan, there’s no more doubts whether she is good enough, she fitting in the society

we are going to ignore the fact that lady d’s drawing room has like 6 mirrors in the same room

then we have the ring scene, where it reflects kate and anthony’s twin flame energy, both of them literally are seen facing each other with 4 mirrors, showing how similar they are

and how much the clash bc of it ,even when they are denying their feelings, and the truth of what’s being going on between each other

later in the same room, we have the arrival of the sheffields that while the focus it’s not fully on them, we can see how, at least anthony, he is aware about kate and how she is being treated (and again facing mirrors)

then we have THE SCENE where again we have the 2 mirrors in parallel this time, showing how they are in the same state of mind, and this is the moment they both admit part of their feelings. however, after regaining self control, the mirrors are not seen together

but separate with kate and anthony in each side, yet anthony it’s seen with 2 mirrors, which i think it reflects, the struggle he is having of doing what he wanted, and his duty,kate is having the same struggle but i believe in that moment she was sure on what she had to do

first it’s worth to mention there are 2 time where kate it’s about to tell the truth to Edwina, the first it’s before the dinner where she was going to tell edwina about the deal, at first she is not facing the mirror but then she is, but it’s interrupted when lady d shows up.

then after THE SCENE, which it’s why she is seen in the mirror when she first shows up and while she tells her all the truth about the sheffields deal and why she did it

but then she does not when edwina is determined not to lose their only chance of poverty marrying anthony, which it’s the moment she decides to bury her feelings

this scene also shows again their roles in society vs themselves out it, while kate is out of the mirror, she tells her about their families struggles and how she try to helped them out, when she's back in it, it's when edwina kinda reminds her the place they both take in society

in ep 6 we have a moment of the twin flame moment where anthony it’s drinking his feelings, aka hiding them, which it’s why he is not in the mirror shot,however kate in a moment of weakness she watches herself baring her soul, her wishes one moment, like in the 1st ep

then before and after kate gives the bangles to edwina, she never looks @ herself in the mirror, showing how she has decided to hide her feelings and not face the truth of what she is actually feeling

even when they are in the palace, and actually whenever she is in edwina’s bride room(?) kate never looks at any of the mirrors, except once

after everything went down with edwina, and she is waiting to listen to her decision. the other time she is seen in a mirror it’s when she breaks down in the closet, which it’s when she lets her emotions out in the open but not really facing it

on the other hand anthony before the whole wedding deal he looks himself in the mirror bc he was resignedly facing the truth,of his feelings and on what he was about to do, even when he is questioned about it

however when everything went down he can’t face it, and when he talks to edwina, he is also not being entirely truthful.and like kate while he waits for edwina taking the decision he is looking at himself in the mirror reflecting

in comparison to the both of them, edwina it’s reflected in the mirror during the whole thing bc little by little she was facing the whole truth about their situations

in ep 7 we start off with anthony looking at himself in the mirror facing the truth about his situation, being in love with kate and having lost her, and his failure of fulfilling his duty

in this scene we have kate and anthony showing their twin flame energy, they are so in sync here

we have another parallel between kate and anthony the night of the harmony ball, both of them are looking at each other facing self-reflecting on what they have done and what they feel, but kate can’t stop thinking about edwina

at the end we have the parallel of kate facing the truth about her situation, on what she has done, and how she failed her family, and how she betrayed once again edwina

i think it’s worth to mention that we have another moment of anthony and the drawing room mirrors, that this time shows only one, demonstrating subtly that kate and him are not in the same place at that moment

in ep 8 when anthony shows up and kate it’s on the bed, and he sees her in the reflection, in a way he has never seen her, with her walls all down, seeing her true self

and the last time when we see kate and edwina talking things out, we bring back to ep 1, both of them have been constrained to what society has assigned them to be

and in this final scene where every truth it’s told and every feeling it’s been said they can step out of that place and being themselves and not what the society wants them to be
