June 3rd is the 33rd anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre. According to UK diplomats, the Chinese government liked a minimum 10,000 of its own citizens. A thread of photos.

China at the time claimed hundreds of soldiers died but acknowledged only 23 dead civilians (whom it blamed and referred to as "thugs and counter revolutionaries")

China later 'admitted' that 2-300 civilians died after the Red Cross said the figure was in the thousands

According to British diplomats in China at the time, the wounded were bayoneted to death and then incinerated — and “hosed down the drains.”
