Nigerians went to bed yesterday with the news about the APC Northern Governors’ conceding the flag bearer of the APC for the 2023 Presidency to the Southern part of Nigeria. We were all happy and it felt like Southern Nigeria had won the 2023 Presidential election.
It was an instant amnesia and we all forgot the journey that brought us to the ‘promised land’. We forgot how we vilified and castigated one man for hobnobbing and ‘romancing’ the North. We forgot how nothing good can come out of his relationship with the North.
Suddenly, we stopped the comparison of his venture with the North and that of Chief Obafemi Awolowo. We couldn’t mutter how he will be disappointed like Afonja who was betrayed by Alimi. The North instantly stopped being the ‘use and dump’ or the power drunk.
One man’s vision and determination that it can happen has brought this fortune and no one is talking about him. For the first in this Nation’s history, a ruling party conceded its Presidential flag bearer to the Southern part of Nigeria. And all we could do is to just move on.
Shouldn’t we be ashamed and apologize for insulting him that he was on a frolic of his own? And also to the North that they can never be a dependable ally. We have quickly settled down to share the spoils of the efforts. How can we be justiciable when have decided to look away?
We are now dragging the treasure box with him, notwithstanding that we have called him several names enroute this destination. We have even told him how he isn’t good enough to take the ‘trophy’. We constantly remind him that he’s only good as a tool and nothing more.
Even the Israelites were not this despicable against Moses. Yes, no man can independently enjoy the fruits of his labour. We should also be careful not to demean that labour so that we don’t choke when we eat the fruit of that labour with the labourer.
Consultations are ongoing as we speak on who will ‘wear the cap’. Our leaders in the SW must be circumspect so that we don’t have a miscarriage of justice. If it is the will of God @officialABAT will win the primaries and if not, we should give him the kudos he deserves.
The insults can start coming in now, but nobody can erase the history that Akanbi has made. Those of us that are grateful will tell the stories to generations unborn, that one’s dexterity brought us good tidings in the South.
Just as stories of the North’s treachery against the South was told until the Jagaban of Borgu upturned it. The North has now given us the yam and knife, the way we share the yam will determine if truly we aren’t our own enemies. #officialABAT #ABAT #APCPrimaries #2023Elections
