And support your local independent coffeehouses with your business, instead.
@SvanteMyrick The owner of an independent might turn out to be a horrible person, but the power of a small businessman doesn't come close to matching the power of a huge corporation. His employees will have more of a chance to come out on top.
@SvanteMyrick Plus, the coffee is usually a lot better, and such places often have more of a community in them, and a lot more atmosphere and comfort.
Starbucks is the kind of place where people grab coffee to go, and nobody's talking to anybody, usually.
@SvanteMyrick On our own, you or me, we don't have so much power, but together we do. Just with the choices we make when we spend our own money, we can make the world in a slightly nicer, happier place, where employees get treated with more respect, and people find it easier to meet each other
@SvanteMyrick Also, when we spend our money at small local businesses, we're helping to create a world with a lot more opportunity for most of us.
@SvanteMyrick Realistically speaking, one probably can't hope to become the founder of a chain like Starbucks or Caribou, but to have one's own small business - that's something one can aspire to, as long as the customers are there.
@SvanteMyrick In a world of small businesses, there will be fewer people with giant salaries, and jobs that leave them lording their power over hundreds of thousands of people, but more jobs that pay a decent salary, and give one a fair chance to act like a decent human being.
@SvanteMyrick Because if there are no shareholders, then one doesn't have to answer to them. There's no need to backstab to get to the top, or to avoid getting knocked down by somebody who wants to. Lots of work to do, lots of frustration, but at least you still get to know who you are?
@SvanteMyrick I think it's just a better feeling, all around, so that's why I spend my money where I do. Not always perfect, but better. I walk in, and I can feel the difference, and the other customers seem to feel it, too.
@tumblr Hi, Tumblr. My usually very good-natured roommate was in a seething rage this morning, and you're the reason why. Let me tell you the story of how your employee, "Abdul E.", "made love to the canine" while representing YOUR company.
@tumblr Everybody in our building was forced to move on short notice, because building management wanted to do a gut rehab. While we were away and our computer was in storage, two things happened.
@tumblr 1. My roommate's email provider went out of business. That shouldn't have been a problem, email providers being easy to find, but somebody at your company decided to make it into a problem.
