I’ve been working a small job as a GP receptionist recently & it is the most difficult & demanding job that I’ve ever worked… & I’ve worked in the media/politics.

The one thing that’s ultimately very clear is that govt underfunding is having a massive impact on primary care.

A lot of people seem to have negative views of GP receptionists but it’s so draining. Only having four clinics a day to tens of thousands of patients is no way to offer healthcare to the public.

& we’re the ones who receive the abuse, not the government.

It’s not even that I feel for myself in this position. It breaks my heart every time I can’t offer a patient an appointment because of the chronic underfunding of the NHS.

The appointments are only 5% of what we do too.. we’re responsible for your routine appts, your blood tests

For ur medication & appointments to be sent to you on time, and to identify any errors that could be detrimental.

I’m not complaining about the job bc it’s so rewarding, but it’s just terrifying how in-the-mud healthcare currently is & v few in the political world are concerned

I can’t articulate just how concerning it is. It’s hundreds of phone calls a day & we only have a few slots.

These patients are otherwise sent to urgent care or the A&E where they have to wait 6+ hours.

The NHS under the Tories is SO finished.

& lastly, a lot of us have sm love for our patients 🥺 any time urgent blood results or a referral comes through, it’s endless duas for their health.
