First up we have Bennie Thompson… he’s reminding us that everyone in Congress took an oath to the US Constitution- oath has roots in the civil war- this is important context for this hearing.

The Oath to the US constitution is really important because our government makes you swear to uphold ideals not a person like a president, because our founders didn’t want loyalty to a KING.

Bennie Thompson is now describing how even Lincoln was willing to accept defeat in 1864 even if it meant the end of the union to preserve rule of law.
