Your reminder that books are not banned in this country.

Preventing public school teachers from forcing their charges to read politically-charged books is not book banning. It's elected officials controlling public school curriculum. The books remain available for reading.
Now, those elected officials may make unwise or outright stupid decisions in the course of that. And voters should hold them accountable!

But no one seriously disputes that elected school board officials should be able to exert control over standard curriculum. And that does
not amount to "book banning." Book banning does not consist of preventing a government employee from forcing other people's children to read certain literature in order to graduate. That has historically never been what "book banning" is.
And what's more, you will find that *everyone* supports some version of "book banning" if that's what you insist on calling it.

Lefties screeching about book banning would not support public school teachers forcing kids to read pro-Trump hagiographies or climate change denial
literature or pro-gun literature. I think we can safely assume there would be a bipartisan consensus that public school teachers shouldn't be able to force students to read Holocaust denial books.

"Well that's different."

Why? You're preventing public school teachers from
forcing students to read certain books. So you support book banning?

Of course not. You support elected school board members being able to shape and control the curriculum. So that if you disapprove, you can vote them out and replace them. Accountability.
Our children do not become the property of whatever public school teacher they're assigned to for a year. Teachers have zero (0) rights vis-a-vis my child. Zero. None. They're not wronged by having to teach approved curriculum to other people's children when that's their job.
You're not a college professor. Your charges aren't there voluntarily and because they're interested. They're there because education is mandatory. You're paid by everyone's taxes. You're not there to indoctrinate. You're there to communicate approved curriculum so that the
broad citizenry has a basic educational foundation upon which to function. It's not your opportunity to effect change by indoctrinating the next generation. If you think that's your job, you can leave. Regardless of your politics or ideology. You can get out.

Assume that every body of fresh water has an alligator in it.

You're not hearing me.

Every. Body. of. Fresh. Water.

That pretty lake at the botanical gardens? Man-made? Can't see the bottom of it? Assume Gator.
Live on a golf course? Look out your window and see a large alligator/dinosaur going for a stroll? Happy Tuesday!

Turing didn't just invent the modern computer. He also helped end WWII by cracking the Enigma code.

He was found dead with a bitten apple. It was long thought that inspired Apple's logo. Jobs was asked if it was true. He said no but he wishes it was.

Turing's mind-boggling work on the Enigma code at Bletchley Park meant that the Allies were able to read Nazi encrypted communications within hours of it being sent. Sometimes the Allies were reading it before the intended recipients. It saved millions of lives.
The complexity of the Enigma code used by Nazi Germany was beyond comprehension. In fact, the total number of possible solutions was 3.3 x 10^114.

Side note: One of the first recipients of insulin, whose life was saved by it, was the future Dr. Robert Daniel Lawrence.

Lawrence would later found a diabetes charity in the home of his own diabetic patient.

H.G. Wells.
Of the insulin-development team:

Collip, who pulled off a miracle in 12 days, would go on to do pioneering work in endocrine research.

Banting would go on to help develop the G-suit for aviators and treatments for mustard gas.
Banting died in 1941 at just 49. He had been just 32 when he received the Nobel Prize for insulin, and remains the youngest laureate for medicine to this day.

In 1891, a fifth child was born to a couple in Canada in a farm house. He would try in vain in 1914 to join the Army to serve his country but was turned away for physical issues. He was ultimately able to join the Army the next year and allowed to serve as he had been training:
as a doctor. He ultimately rose to the rank of Captain and was a decorated war hero after he was wounded at the Battle of Cambrai in 1918 in France. After being injured, he continued to risk his own life in tending other wounded soldiers for sixteen hours before he had to be
stopped by another doctor. The next year, he was awarded one of the highest awards given to British servicemen: the Military Cross. He returned to Canada after the war and tried to get a job at a major children's hospital but was turned down. Undeterred, he started his own

We fought 20 years in Afghanistan to replace the Taliban with the Taliban, but at least we’ve got them hashtags and woke virtue signals for the next war.
(This is a criticism of political leadership priorities and not the average Marine of any sexual orientation, by the way. They’re not responsible for having failed, misfocused leadership.)
“So you completely fucked up a multi-decade effort that cost thousands of lives and trillions of dollars. What have you changed to avoid this disaster in the future?

We’ve got hashtags and Photoshops.”

The Supreme Court is not your local police department or federal investigators seeking criminal charges It's your employer and the nation's highest court. If you don't want to turn over data, fine -- get fired. It's simple.
You're not entitled to be a Supreme Court clerk. You're not entitled to be entrusted with helping to craft the law of the land and handle confidential information without the court verifying its trust in you. You don't like it, you can get out.
"How dare you deny me my right to help govern the lives of 330 million people just because I won't verify that I'm not abusing the office."

Nah, fam. You're not a post office deliveryman. You're an elite in a rare, top position of great trust. Get out.
