You know what? I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore.

I’m angry at the misinformation, the disinformation, the out of control “spin”, the profoundly disturbing pretence by the partisan press that it’s not their job to keep their own side to account.
I’m angry at the whataboutism that shifts focus from real issues to imaginary ones, the gross salivation at petty things while the house is literally on fire, the “look here, shiny thing” delivered with all the righteousness of a prosperity gospel preacher.
I’m mad at the so-called mainstream media, pretending that ignoring the house on fire is an honourable display of neutrality while they use an abacus to count up their “hits” with no regard for the necessary triage they are professionally obligated to perform.
I’m mad that I sit here, watching our society descend into a post-truth hell with no recourse, no “911” to call, no first responders to do their freaking jobs, reading nonsense takes about nonsense things better suited to an internal email.
I’m mad that calling out the terrible things going on - why isn’t what Poilievre is doing FILLING the media-scape? Because that would offend our weird Canadian sensibilities and feel punitive or unfair?

I’m just really mad.
And I’m not going to be that person who wrings her hands and clutches her pearls and settles into her comfy chair to await the end of the world as we know it.

No, I don’t know what I’m going to do.

But I’m damn well not going to willingly be a passenger on the Titanic.
Apologies for the rant-related sentence and structure torture.

OMG you people with the airport obsession. So sorry that a pandemic tipped everything on its side and all the countries in the world are trying to get back upright and it’s not easy or pretty.

I see your first world bitches, bitches. Gawwwd. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I 100% support the democratic invocation of the Emergencies Act. There were a bunch of white nationalists and swastika waving would be insurrectionists occupying our capital. I don’t care who asked who for what, the forces on the ground were demonstrably unable to cope.
I could see it, anyone watching the news or living in Ottawa could see it, the world could see it. The Ottawa police, let down and abandoned by the Premier of this province, were NOT coping. It’s a *fact*.

All this hand wringing is bullshit, imo.
Just how long were the Feds supposed to sit back and have their place of work, the literal heart of our democracy, overrun by folks engaging in an illegal occupation? Folks who were aided and abetted in direct and indirect ways by the same folks now clutching their pearls.

Wakes up, turns on Twitter, sees Elections Canada wants to … checks notes … address disinformation and misinformation … and some folks are all in a state about that.

Now why would that be? 🤔
Also, hallelujah!

The largest obstacle we face in our politics is a kind of uncontrolled spin or framing which distorts truth and infects our polity with baseless anger and dangerous misunderstandings.
It mostly occurs on social media.

Which explains why some folks, notably from the Internet based spin factories masquerading as “press” and the politicians they endorse, are so very very upset this morning.

It is a grave mistake to believe that what Poilievre is promoting is “conservatism” - because it’s not. One of the principle foundations of conservatism is the preservation of the institutions that underpin our democracy.

His whole shtick is about undermining those institutions.
Conservatism isn’t about “muh taxes” or even “muh freedoms”, it’s about a balance between a pragmatic government and a well ordered society.

What he’s pushing is unadulterated populism which happens to have some libertarian based nominally “conservative” hooks.
He’s pushing the idea that “common sense” is equal to whatever nonsense the low information Everyman will believe, that its not comprised of expertise or experience, but rather of wishes and desires.

He’s selling an unsustainable idiocracy that will damage us irrevocably.

I don’t think COVID is over. I actually don’t think it will ever be over. Which means we need to adapt to it’s presence, like we had to do with other viral diseases. It will kill more people than it should and some of the reason for that is the “anti-vax” crowd and the …
… politicization of the virus itself. Some of those people will be the elderly and children and the immune compromised.

But we can’t MAKE people take a vaccination or even vaccinate their children - although we used to be able to insist on the latter via public education.
I think this is a turning point in our social and political evolution and we best be careful about how we manage the future.

If the factions that generally want the same things can’t stop biting each other’s asses, we will find ourselves, as in Ontario, the tyrannized majority.

The narrative, heavily promoted and incestuously regurgitated among the conservative press, that Trudeau “brought this upon himself” by calling out obstructive and dangerous anti-vax conspiracy nuts provides a glimpse into where we are.
Divisive, they said. Trudeau was dividing Canadians, showing intolerance, promoting a culture war of sorts. They were promoting a kind of “everything is tolerable in a democracy” worldview that they do not share wrt to the idea of FN genocide, or trans rights, for example.
Everything is not tolerable in a democracy. Dangerous, seditious, ill informed worldviews that destroy comity and undermine public health and a peaceful society are not acceptable and SHOULD be called out.
