🧵 a no to yes journey, the consequences of Brexit and get us out of here @theSNP
In my younger days I was a ‘Global Scot’; an entrepreneur; I commuted to London weekly (30 years); travelled the world on business and genuinely thought the UK was better together. I voted No (to my shame now) in 2014.
Then Brexit was discussed. And worse, it happened and I’m now firmly yes #ScottishIndependence2023 The fall out from it is only just starting. International companies before 2016 saw Scotland (and the UK) as an easy route to doing business throughout the EU.
But no longer. They go to Ireland. Or the Netherlands. The UK government under @BorisJohnson seems to be controlled by a sinister group known as the ERG (in other words UKIP and the BNP) who think the British Empire can be revisited and that British sovereignty rules the world
Global business is leaving the UK for the EU in droves, particularly American companies. And yet, I hear the Northern Ireland Protocol is to be ripped up by this corrupt, infiltrated government. Next week will see a trade war start with the EU.
More worryingly, it will cause tension (and alienation) with the USA over the Good Friday Agreement.
And yet, no one (the majority of us) wants this.
So who benefits? Who started all of this? Who funded it?
Meanwhile in Scotland. We hear daily rhetoric from @Ianblackford_MP - remember this classic; “we won’t be dragged out of the EU against our will” speech. Yet, we were. And we continue to be dragged further and further and further into the abyss
I get that we need to persuade the previous ‘55’ no (voters) - I was one. But surely the cost of living crisis, the cost of fuel, the gaslighting, utter contempt and sheer lies and corruption in plain sight from Westminster has tipped Scotland into realising the obvious
What is clear is change is urgently needed. We all know leaving the EU is a disaster and will only get worse. And we do have the resources in Scotland to thrive
The first duty of government is to protect their citizens. The UK government has failed and are deliberately inflicting pain and suffering on the poorest in society. The @theSNP now need to step up and deliver on their rhetoric and the mandate they were elected to deliver

1/10 at a family dinner in Spain last night. Table plan had me next to a elderly English couple. Quintessentially Gammon. On hearing my Scottish accent, the old fella says ‘Gordon Brown ruined the UK’. Good opener I thought
2/10 Turns out they are Brexiteers. Ah, I said, “how well is that going then? Genuinely, please point out a benefit, any benefit to the country?”
3/10 old dear got flustered and spluttered ‘we got rid of the EU and the foreigners. The newspapers are full of the benefits.” I asked her what newspaper did she read
Disaster capitalism and super-elitism. A 🧵 Let’s examine what is happening. Energy prices are out of control. An absent government. Brexit. Systematic corruption and plundering of the nations assets. NHS being made to fail, inflation out of control.
Workers earnings deliberately eroded and driven down over 12 years; citizen and workers rights taken away
Massive increases in Executive earnings. Huge payouts to shareholders…whilst some people in employment require state benefits and in some cases food banks to survive
