First 3 images: what @TheAtlantic said when Trump announced that the US/Saudi partnership must continue despite the murder of Jamal Khashoggi

Last image: what @TheAtlantic said when Biden announced that the US/Saudi partnership must continue despite the murder of Jamal Khashoggi ImageImageImageImage
As I wrote yesterday, the close US/Saudi partnership shows that the US does not care -- at all -- if other countries are democratic or despotic. It only cares that other countries' regimes serve US interests. Trump's only sin was he was honest about this.

The excuses Biden officials are making - for why Biden vowed during the campaign to turn Saudis into "pariahs", only to now embrace them - is the same rationale Trump offered for the same decision (which caused pundits to declare the Death of US Values):

In 2018, Trump said: yeah, sure, it's terrible that Khashoggi was killed, but our close partnership with the Saudis is too valuable to sever that relationship.

That caused hysteria in the pundit class.

This is *exactly* what Biden is now saying to justify the same decision.
WATCH: Biden, 2020 campaign, on what he vowed he would do -- if elected President -- to the Saudis and the US/Saudi partnership as punishment for murdering Jamal Khashoggi and slaughtering Yemeni children.
Here's Biden, as President, on what he actually did to the Saudis and the US/Saudi partnership:

Pretty much everything he said in that above video was a flat-out lie. He sold weapons to them. He refused to sanction MbS. Now he's visiting on his knees, heralding the partnership. ImageImageImageImage
After Biden campaigned on a vow to not sell arms to the Saudis and turn them into "pariahs," the first thing he did as President was refuse to sanction bin Salman for his role in Khashoggi's murder. In Oct - way before Russia's invasion -- Biden approved major arms sales. Now: Image
The excuse from Biden officials for why Biden began embracing and coddling the Saudis from the start is *exactly* the same as Trump's rationale:

Yes, it's bad Khashoggi was murdered and they starve Yemenis, but the benefits we get from this partnership are too great to stop. Image
It's amazing to look to 2018, to see how the entire DC political and media class reacted *with revulsion* when Trump did *exactly* what Biden is now doing: ignoring the Khashoggi murder and destruction of Yemen because of the benefits to US. Here's the summary of what they did: Image
It's really worth looking at what specific DC elites said after Trump announced he'd continue to embrace Saudi despite Khashoggi and Yemen. You'd never hear such bile now toward Biden.

They invented a fake narrative: Trump was a singular monster: for upholding US tradition.
As Biden sells arms to the Saudis and prepares to meet MbS, join me in looking at some specific examples of what was said -- and how it was said -- about Trump doing the same.

To start: @JohnBrennan, the NYT, @Acosta, and @Acosta again: ImageImageImageImage
Next up: the fiery rage, fury and indignation of Sen. @timkaine, @ananavarro, @Lawrence, and @carlbildt. Just read this. Try to imagine these fraudulent hacks uttering even a tiny fraction of moral rage toward Biden for doing the same exact thing (which Obama and Bush also did): ImageImageImageImage
The rage over Trump's refusal to sever ties with the Saudis -- despite Khashoggi's murder and their destruction of Yemen (with US and UK weapons) -- intensifies with @VP Kamala Harris (now herself selling arms to the Saudis!), @RichardEngel, @KenRoth, and @StephenKing.🔥🔥🔥 ImageImageImageImage
More righteous disgust and moral indignation -- how could someone be so monstrous as to partner with **the Saudis** as Trump is doing? -- courtesy of @DanRather, @robreiner, Publisher of @washingtonpost (who employed Khashoggi), and @CharlesMBlow. Smell the moral righteousness: ImageImageImageImage
Next up: @iamjohnoliver (Trump shows "arms deals are more important than a butchered journalist!"), @jimsciutto (same), NYT Editors (Trump *destroys US values, embraces Saudi values*); CNN WH reporter @StCollinson (Trump announced: you can murder if you have oil and money!). ImageImageImageImage
So often, this was the core fraud of Trump-era media discourse. They depicted acts all presidents have done (meeting with Egypt's dictator, ignoring atrocities by allies, hugging despots), and pretended Trump pioneered it, a singular monster among noble Presidents.

My favorite: Image
One last time: don't try to justify this by claiming everything changed because of Ukraine.

Biden refused to sanction MbS in Feb, 2021. He ordered a major arms sale to Saudis in Oct, 2021. And there's no argument that buying Saudi oil now is more moral than buying it elsewhere. ImageImage
And for good measure: in 2009, as Egyptians began rising up against their long-time dictator, the US-supported-and-protected Hosni Mubarak, Hillary pronounced him "my good friend" and defended him.

And it was Obama who enabled the Saudis to destroy Yemen with endless support.🇺🇸 ImageImageImageImage
But by all means: continue to write your columns spewing moral outrage at golfers who decided to play in a Saudi-funded tour.

It's much easier to deal with that than confront the reality of what the US -- not Trump, but the US -- has been doing for decades with Saudi despots.
When Trump continued the US/Saudi "partnership" after Khashoggi's murder, it was cast as an unprecedentedly amoral President embracing useful tyrants over American values (see 👆).

As Biden meets today with the Saudi despot, it's: he has no choice given geo-strategic realities. Image
The NYT's claim that "Biden tried to isolate" MbL but failed is false.

From the start - way before Russia's invasion of Ukraine -- Biden refused to sanction MbL, then approved a massive arms deal to the Saudis, then announced his planned trip.

Biden has always hugged tyrants. Image

The shooter also praised Anders Breivik and Brenton Tarrant (anti-Muslim mass shooters); commemorated murdered wife of white separatist Randy Weaver and Timothy McVeigh; "Kick a spic"; cited Waco.

The need to instantly impose a clear ideology on mentally ill killers is stupid. Image
This platform is filled with countless pundit and influencer-types trying hard to claim the shooter was motivated by whatever ideology or group they most hate:

It was anti-Zionism! It was leftism! It was far-right racism.

Many, perhaps most, mass shooters are principally ill.

Please watch this. If you're American or British, you're paying for the mass famine Israel has been imposing and continues to impose on Gaza.

Alex de Waal is a leading famine scholar who has worked on most recent famines. Listen to what he says here about starvation in Gaza:
More here from Waal -- if you can bear to listen to it -- on exactly what the IDF and US are doing to block food from entering Gaza, and the reason why Stage 5 famine and dying of starvation is one of the worst ways a human being can perish:

The French Press Association issued a statement on how they have had journalists die in war zones -- but never of starvation.

Several of their Gazan colleagues can no longer work due to severe malnutrition.

This century's worst crime against humanity:

Yale's "Fascism expert" Jason Stanely -- Yale's "Jacob Urowsky Professor of Philosophy" (does anyone now who that is?) -- explains why he's fleeing the US in fear withYale's Timothy Snyder and his wife Marci Shore -- to Canada, which he calls "the Ukraine of of North America." Image
He says Canada is Ukraine beacaue it's a bastion of freedom and nobility threatened an by authoritarian neighbor.

The absolute narcissism and melodrama of these people: there are those whose civil liberties are threatened. Celebrated, rich Yale professors are not among them.
Extra gross that Snyder is very wealthy by heralding himself the world's leading warrior against fascism. His book implores others not to "anticipatorily obey" Trump.

2 months into Trump's term, he flees the US as if he's an underground #Resistance leader in occupied France.Image

If Joe Biden had announced that any private universities that allow criticism of him or Dems shall immediately lose all federal funding -- while keeping the funding if they allow criticisms of Trump -- would that have been constitutional since no school has the right to funding?
How about if Biden cut off all federal funding to universities that deny the validity of the trans identity or the existence of multiple genders -- on the ground that such teaching incites violence against trans people and is hate speech?

Would that have been constitutional?
The only tactic needed to induce support for censorship is train people to believe the views they hate are violence.

Anti-trans activists are inciting violence and calling for genocide, etc.

Opponents of Israel's war on Gaza are calling for genocide and must be censored, etc. etc.

During the Dem primary campaign, one of RFK Jr.'s core issues was free speech and opposing censorship. Then he became known for wanting to combat chronic disease.

So what does he use his first month for? Threatening universities which allow protests against Israel on campus:
Note: you're free to protest the US on campus. You can protest any country or group: just not Israel.

And of course this censorship - like all censorship - is justified the name of stopping hate speech and keeping one group "safe": as if they're being relentlessly attacked.
Every government in the world -- including the most repressive and tyrannical -- "protects free speech" for the views they like.

It's the views they most hate that are targeted. And the most sacred issue for many in the Trump Admin is Israel: that is what's therefore shielded. Image

There's nothing stopping Germany or the EU from funding war in Ukraine until the end of eternity if they wish, or sending their citizens to Ukraine to fight Russia.

But the German Greens -- the worst of the worst -- are emblematic of European liberals: all posturing, no action.
British pundits prance around as if they're Churchill, and Macron walks around like he's a tough guy, and German Greens and other vague Berlin liberals posture as if they're the paragon of compassion: all while they rely on the US to finance wars, fight and protect them.
Zelensky begged and begged Westerners to get off line and stop tweeting with their blue-yellow emojis and instead go to Ukraine to help them fight the Russian Army, knowing he couldn't win without non-Ukrainians volunteering to fight. Very, very few did.
