My daily update! I want to state up front that I have no idea what is going on in Kherson, and I spent all day trying to understand Kharkiv. And I probably still don't. #ukrdailyupdate
First, the Kharkiv area: I am confused. Let me explain. In the past, I have heard that Ukraine sent a recon unit up through Izbytske, but that they did not control the area.
Today, there is a report that Russia sent forces to Izbytske from the direction of Ternova (6), i.e. from the west, and that their assault on the town failed but they established control over the northern outskirts. Which I have depicted on the map.
So, perhaps this means Ukraine had sent more than just a recon unit into this area? Or perhaps the recon people are the ones who fought off the Russians, I am not sure.
From what I understand, Ternova and Rubizhne are both kinda-sorta under Russian control, but are treated as a sort of no-man's land. I have marked these areas purple as a result.
Today, I saw reports of Russia pushing south from Rubizhne, mostly from Russian sources, and I spent hours trying to figure out if this is true or not. From the information I can gather, the claims are false and Ukraine controls all the areas south of Rubizhne along with Bairak.
There is continued fighting along the points of contact near Tsupivka (1), Velyki Prakhody (2), Slobozhanske (3), and Ternova (5). In addition, Russia used MLRS rockets to deploy mines around Petrivka (4).
The Izyum area: Ukraine is moving north and east towards Izyum at a rate of around 500 meters per day, and at this rate they will reach the town in a week or two (7a,7b,7c).
There are unconfirmed reports that Ukraine captured the town of Prydonetske (8). This town is only 10km from Izyum. Again, these reports are unconfirmed and could be entirely wrong. Take it with a grain of salt.
Russia is moving their supply lines east towards Starobilsk and Kreminna so I think it is important for people to realize the value of the logistics routes that move through Izyum and Kupyansk is dwindling.
I believe the remaining forces to the south and west of Izyum are mainly a screening force meant to slow down the Ukrainian advance while Russia builds their new supply lines and defenses more to the east.
Speaking of supply lines, today Ukraine attacked a convoy near Velyka Burluk that was driving towards Kupyansk.
Velyka Burluk is here.
Russia is attacking Mazanivka (9) and there are rumors that the town is the weakest point along the Ukrainian line in this area. You should take that with a grain of salt, though.
The Russian attack on Dolyna was repelled (10) and Russia has still failed to capture Bohorodychne (11). Russia is trying to probe the Siverskyi Donets river for weak points to cross (12,13).
The Sievierodonetsk area: Russia is pushing a lot of supplies into Kreminna (14), and it is obviously becoming a hub for Russian logistics.
The only problem is that it is within artillery range. It is 20km from the high ground around Lysychansk, and around 13km from the high ground between Novodruzhesk and Shypylivka.
Ukraine primarily controls the industrial area of Sievierodonetsk, and Russia is slowly pushing into this area (15) whilst simultaneously capturing the remaining gray area within the city (16).
The industrial area is relatively easy to defend, though, and it could hold for months if Ukraine wanted to commit the resources and the situation around the rest of the country permits it.
Russia is still pushing through the airport area (17) and trying to capture Borivske(18) without much success. South of the city, Russia tried to attack Ustynivka from the south, but were repelled (19).
Russia tried attacking Zolote from the north east (20) and south (21) and were repelled. They tried attacking Vrubivka from the south (22a) and south west (22b) and were repelled. They tried moving out of Vasylivka towards Bilohorivka, but were pushed back into the town (23).
The Wagner Group is in an ongoing battle for Pokrovske supported by air strikes and a large amount of artillery, but thus far the attack has failed (24a,24b).
The Horlivka area: I have drawn two Ukrainian defensive lines on the map behind the front lines. These defensive lines predate the February 24th escalation of the war, so don't think I am stating any secret information or anything.
Anywho, Russia is still attacking Novoluhanske, but this time from the west (25). This town is extremely important for both Ukraine and Russia, and there has been intense fighting going on for some time now.
Two days ago Russia broke through the Ukrainian line at Dolomitne and they are now pushing north towards Kodema (26). There is a strong Ukrainian defensive line in their way, so we will see how this plays out over the next few days.
Russia is trying to push forces into the high ground in this area to gain an advantage, however these two defensive lines are designed to protect this high ground.
The Kherson area: I have no idea what's going on, sorry. My gut tells me nothing is actually happening beyond artillery fire, but there are reports of Ukrainian advances.
I have heard that Ukraine x km from Kherson, as though it were some new troop movement to gain ground, but when I look at my map, they have been roughly x km from Kherson for some time, so I don't know what to say. I have nothing to add until I see *proof*.
First, the Kharkiv area: Not much is going on. I'm seeing fewer reports of combat, limited only to Tsupivka (1) and Rubizhne (2). Russian propaganda is beginning to admit their most recent offensive in this area has failed, which may be the biggest change in this area.
The Izyum area: I have seen Russian sources confirming Ukrainian attacks in the forest west of Izyum, so I feel more confident marking those three towns as under Ukrainian control. In addition, Ukraine is pushing north and east towards Izyum (3a,3b,3c).
Russian sources are claiming that there are 2000 ukrainian soldiers stopping their advance in Zolote. From what I can tell, Russia is attacking the area with between 5000 and 12000 men, and they have suffered catastrophic casualties including losing many high ranking officers.
I don’t think Zolote will hold much longer given the actions of the past 24 hours. But the damage they have caused to the Russian war machine is absolutely immense.
If/When Zolote falls, the Ukrainian front line will shrink by about 50km and Russia will have to push through all over again, suffering even more losses.
First, the Kharkiv area: Nothing much has changed. There is combat along the points of contact (1,2,3,5), Russia used MLRS to lay more mines around Peremoha and Shestakove (4).
I changed the graphic to have yellow outlines around the areas Russia is shooting mines into. Russia launched an attack out of Rubizhne and there is ongoing fighting (6). Everything is more or less status quo.
My daily update! I do the research myself, if I see information, I take notes. I might miss stuff or get things wrong. I'm trying my best. #ukrdailyupdate
First, the Kharkiv area: Nothing really changed in this area. I removed Ternova and Rubizhne from Russian control and made them gray areas. Beyond that, there is ongoing fighting in Tsupivka (1), Velyki Prokhody (2), Slobozhanske (3), Ternova (4), and Rubizhne (5).
The Izyum area: Ukraine is moving north and east towards Izyum at a rate of around 500 meters per day (6a,6b,6c). At this rate, they could reach Izyum in a week or two.
First, the Kharkiv area: The situation hasn't changed, and it remains status quo. There is fighting Tsupivka (1), Velyki Prokhody (2), Ternova (3), and Rubizhne (4).
There is heavy artillery fire raining on every Ukrainian position in the area, and Russia has called in air strikes on the Ukrainian forces near Ternova and Rubizhne. I am not totally sure who controls Rubizhne at the moment or if it is contested.
First, the Kharkiv area: I found no interesting news from this area, it is status quo. There is ongoing fighting in Tsupivka (1), Velyka Prokhody (2), Ternova (3), and Rubizhne (4). There is heavy artillery all throughout the area.
Today a video emerged of Ukrainians destroying two Russian armored vehicles near Male Vesele (to the west of Ternova) using Brimstone missiles, which are advanced missiles from the United Kingdom. Russia is firing artillery into Kharkiv to destroy civilian infrastructure.
